Or you might want to audition a silicone based lube - they're more expensive and more difficult to wash off but they don't dry out. I've come to prefer them for anal over the thick because I feel more, which adds to the pleasure. Astro-glide is actually my least favorite because it has the disadvantage of being thin AND drying out (but it's cheap and fine for other activities).
Yes, the lubricant for anal play has to be thicker but reapplication may be needed just the same.
