My gf is on the pill..I don't remember which one in particular but she takes it everyday and is on schedule. The pill she is taking, she can delay her period, as long as she keeps taking the pill, as I'm sure most of you already know. Anyways, to my question; her period started lightly on Friday, and she was still taking the pill, she stopped taking it on Sunday as she wanted it to start later durring the weekend/early in the week. She also mentionned that it was heavier on the 2nd day when it should have been heavy the first day then starting to get lighter and lighter as the days go on. She's also mentionned that this one isn't light like the other one was when she first started to take the pill. I don't know if I should be worried and/or she should go get checked out. I figured I'd ask here to see what you's all had to say. We are having sex for those who it wasn't obvious, so I'm a bit concerned. Thanks in advance.

My gf's period?

You still never said what kind of pills she is on. Is she taking the new Seasonal where is ok to go months w/out a period? or is she taking regular monthly pills but skipping the week of fake/period pills so she can manipulate her period??
Pills are 99% effective when used correctly, although, if she's making her own rules by continuing them to stop and start her period whenever she wants, that isn't using them correctly.
The pill its self doesn't keep you from being pregnant. Its how it affects your cycle. You don't take them the week of your period and then you start a new pack. The pill works in several ways by keeping you from ovulating and a few other things. Just taking a pill doesn't keep you from getting pregnant.
Well, everything went well and no problems for that little thing heh. I've got a new question now though..Her period is now done and it's been 2-3 days that it has been done. Is it safe for us to have sex without a condom or do we NEED one? I know it's suggested to use one but the pills that she's on you don't NEEd a condom. The nurse at the local Health Unit told us that several times. I was just wondering because she didnt take the pill for the week of her period and just started them again on Sunday if it would be safe or not. Thanks.
How long has she been taking the pill?
Unless she's on that new Seasonal (which you only have 3 periods a year)...usually the pill is designed for a women to have her period once a month. Yes I could take my pills and when it got to the placebo ones, I could skip those and start a new pack and technically skip my period. Im not sure, but I don't think this is really a healthy thing to continually do. ]
Anytime you screw around with your hormones, you are likely to screw up your cycle. Your period could start at a weird time or be lighter/heavier than usual.
Well, I was more confused as to why it started while she was still on the pill. I know her period comming is a definite good sign of her NOT being pregnant, but girls can still have their periods while they are pregnant so..She is feeling completely fine. I'm just more confused/curious then nervous. Thanks for the reply.
from what i can tell from hearing my girlfriend discuss this issue, i think the term for that light early start is spotting, and this does happen from time to time with her. i'll let someone with more experience in this area give a more thorough explanation, but don't be worried about it (especially if it was pregnancy you were worried about since her period coming at all is a good sign she isn't pregnant)
