Given that the stimulation is primarily in the clitoris, the movement of the penis, alone, does not make a difference much of thime. The pressure of your pubic bone against her is often much more important. This means sidewards movement rather than in and out.
Those few (very few) women who may have their G-Spot stimulated by the penis prefer the stroking in and out.
The best advice is the advice your partner gives you. Some like the sense of depth from thrusting but the vagina has no nerve endings and it is not the vagina that feels this thrusting and pressure. And many of us (about half) do not reach orgasm through penile action without other stimulation.

Favorite is when he is on top, has himself fully inside, and just pulls back slightly, or just holds in the same position for a few seconds so I can tighten up around him. This drives me wild. :)

2. G-Spot - stroking in and out with the lubed head of a penis pressing up
3. posterior fornix - also via lubed head of penis storking in and out but this time pressing down

I love the good old grind. Its when the penis is inside of the woman and you grind your hips, it creates such a nice feeling. I prefer doing it when I am on top because then I get to sort out the angle/speed/roughness.
