What is the size of a typical Clitoris?

Guys, have you ever thought about, wondered about, or, considered if the size of a woman's Clitoris makes a difference? To her? To you?

We know many fellas wonder, worry, and ask if anything can be done to make their penis longer, so why don't you openly muse about this matter? An inquisitive mind wants to know.

What is the size of the average Clitoris?

That is interesting Doc because they certainly do vary in size, sometimes wildly. I have no idea what avg. might be. I'll have to think a bit before I even venture on this one. What I have noticed is this- in my experience clitoral size has absolutely nothing to do with a woman's sexual response, talent for pleasing dlb, or personality.
Six inches huh? Not so long ago I mentioned to some friends at work that I would love to be with a woman with a huge four inch clit, just to see. Their unanimous response was, " it would be like a small four inch penis." I guess some people are just insecure about their sexuality- or mine!

Probably not, sera. These are the same guys who spend hours watching internet porn of women "squirting" but are not willing to try and find out how to make their own mates do that. I am becoming very disappointed in my fellow men.

This is interesting, Doc. In all the years we have been posting here we have seen dozens of threads on penis size and a couple on large labia. This is the first I can remember on the size of the clitoris. And it was posted by a man!

There have been very few studies of this and I did not even do standard research. I simply called a med school classmate who is a gyn surgeon in Stuttgart and heavy into research. He is one of those rare researchers who can really put his knowledge to work where it counts. A few years ago I discovered why his wife is always so bright and chipper with a permanent smile.

This is what I learned: 80% of all clitoris are between four mm and 2 cm in length in their flaccid state or 1/8 inch to ¾ inch. Pretty wide range. The typical clitoris increases by three-quarters (1/2 inch) of a cm when aroused. The diameter of the glans of the clitoris runs between .25 mm and .45 mm (1/8-3/8 inch). There are tribes in Africa where clitoris the size of small penis are quite common. They are up to 6 cm in length and are a point of pride – sort of like a large penis among men. The common description as being the “size of a pea” must be used with caution. A small pea or, as sera points out, a pencil eraser.

Very rarely do women seek enlargement of their clitoris but some do wish to have them shortened. He discourages this procedure and I have no idea what it would entail.

Ducy’s comment about more than meets the eye is important. There is some interest in redefining the clitoris. We traditionally consider the shaft, glans and hood to be the complete structure of the clitoris. It actually stands on two muscles that extend back under the labia and come together behind the vaginal vestibule – about under the perineum. These muscles are important in the functioning of the clitoris, especially during the highly aroused state when the clitoris is retracted for self-protection. If these muscles are included in measurement, the typical clitoris would be about the size of a small penis. It just occurred to me that when a penis is taken into the vagina, these muscles would be spread a bit causing a retraction of the erect clitoris. Hmmm. God screwed up again.

Traditionally, the clitoris is thought of as an undeveloped penis. Considering that we all begin as female zygotes, the penis is more accurately viewed as an overdeveloped clitoris! Although the erect clitoris is about 1% of the volume of the erect penis, it includes, functionally, all the nerves that the penis does. This does mean, linearly, that the clitoris is 100 times more sensitive but it does indicate that it is a more sensitive and delicate organ. Nothing ends a sexual high faster than some guy trying to dig it out after it has retracted.

I did ask my colleague about the relationship of size to sexual satisfaction. He is among the relatively few male gyn's who actually sees a woman's sex life as worth treating. Women, including the gyn I see, more commonly consider this a part of their practice. He has found no relationship between between sexual satisfaction or orgasmic ability and clitoris size. He has assisted some women with a small clitoris by removing a bit of the hood to expose the clitoris a bit more. Small clitoris can be so completely under the prepuce that they are insulated from stimulation. When they get what they need, they seem to respond just as well as larger ones. He does posit that excessive long clitoris that are always exposed my cause some discomfort. He has never see one over 3.5 cm.

The clitoris and the penis, the labia and scrotum all have a common origin; therefore, the clitoris has a tip (Glans), hood (foreskin), and, a shaft. As for the penis, there is as much root structure within the abdominal cavity as there is exposed. The shaft of the clitoris and its root structure are all buried beneath the skin of the upper vulva and between the large labia.
