Question about military related wedding...

My boyfriend is joining the navy and we've talked for quite some time about marriage. We've decided that after he enlists and gets his sign on bonus that we are going to get married. I've recently been told by some people that my boyfriend will have to wear his military uniform at our wedding regardless of whether it occurs off base. I previously believed that you could choose a non-military traditional wedding if you so choose. I could really use some input from someone with experience with this. Thanks a lot.

lnt1103 has a spectacular aura about
I knew a female Staff SGT in the Air Force who was getting married a couple-three years ago. I asked her if she'd have to wear her uniform, and she said she was allowed to if she wanted, but would not be doing so. I would have to think it's the same for the groom. Best to ask an active member of the military.

Ya im married to a marine, and you do have the option off base. You are not forced to be married in your military uniform.

As I former navy guy (though never married in service, but many shipmates where) I've had the chance to see first hand from an unbiased perspective how hard a navy marriage can be on a couple (i.e: separation). I hope you underatand what you getting into, had the base's councilling, etc...I've seen too many young-brighteyed newly weds that couldn't take it and fall apart.

That's my 'serious advice' voice....

so, that said (no offense ment on your happy event) it all depends on where your having the event and what your theme is....Talk it over with him and your family, a wedding I've always believed, isn't for guys...it's for the bride, her day to be the center of the uiverse, for that one bright memorable moment that lasts a life time.

ok, NOW I'm becoming a romantic sop.....
