I don't know of any studies on this subject, but among the guys I've been with I've found that small nipples can still be quite sensative. Try playing with them, and see if he likes it. If you already have tried it and haven't gotten great results, try doing it differently. Maybe you need to go rougher, or maybe you need to go gentler.

If he can play with mine, I have the right to play with his! He hasn't complained so far, but he has learnt an important lesson - how sensitive nipples can really be.
