Lube 101

Hi everyone. Here's a little lube advice. I saw some kind of scary stuff in this thread. First and foremost, lube from a drugstore is crap. KY, Astroglide, Lifestyles, things like that don’t last long and get sticky. Trust me, I work at a sex store. There are four brands that I always point people to depending on what they are looking for, and depending on if they have any sensitivities. It's all about testing different products and finding what's right for you. Here's a quick rundown of the top four...

Frixion
Frixion is a sense enhancement lubricant. (and my personal favorite) It has some extra ingredients in it to make things tingle a little, and generally increase the sensitivity of sensitive spots. Fin times. It comes in water base (blue bottle) and silicone (red bottle)

Oh My
All natural lube. Probably one of the best on the market for women. Inexpensive and immensely popular. The lube is actually kind of sticky after prolonged use, but it's users don’t seem to care. I personally had no problems at all. It was relatively long lasting and didn’t stain anything. Interesting fact though, Oh My flavor lubes are one of only two that are safe to use for both oral and intercourse. They have three types, water base, water base flavored, and a silicone base that should be on shelves some time in the next few months.

Foreplay
Foreplay is an awesome company. They have a lube for everyone, no matter what you are looking for. They lubes are wonderful general purpose lubricants. Nothing overly special about them. They are long lasting and don’t get sticky. Foreplay produces seven types of lubricants. I'll list them here...
-Gel, Blue cap
wonderful general purpose lubricant

-Gel Plus, Red cap
Same a Gel, only it is passed through an extra screening process. It is hypoallergenic and recommended for women with sensitive skin

-Liquid, Purple cap
Really really watery lube. It gets all over the place, but it leaves your skin feeling like silk. Use at your own risk. We don’t sell it much :P

-Cream, silver cap squeeze tube
The best anal lube on the market. It's thick as hair gel, water base (so you can use it with silicone toys) and surprisingly long lasting

-Gel, Gel Plus, Liquid, Silver cap bottles
The silver capped Gel, Gel Plus, and Liquid are all the same as mentioned above except they are all glycerin free (a lot of women have glycerin allergies) and are made with a higher quality of ingredient

-Succulents
Foreplays flavored lube line. They have twenty flavors I think. They are all natural, and they are the other flavored lube that is safe for both intercourse and oral. Do not try it with any other lube. It will lead to bad things!

System JO
The best. The most expensive. Jo used to be a pharmaceutical company. They made lube for gynecologists. They know what they are doing. They make several lubes. Water base, silicone, water base for women, silicone for women, all of them come in warming too. They also make the best massage oil on the market. (in my opinion anyways) It comes as normal, scented, or warming, and when it evaporates, it leaves your skin feeling super soft for hours. They also make some really awesome aroma therapy sprays, and some really nice shower products. As well as a few other goodies that come with their kits. If you are reading this and you or your girl has been having problems with lube, or is in any way sensitive and you are worried about what to try, try JO for women. It is as safe as you can get. All inheritance are medical grade and it is glycerin free if I am not mistaken.

And that's it ^^

Well, I am not about to argue with a lube expert. I will popint out the advantage of using spermicidal lubrication with condoms. If 100 women use condoms alone for a a year, 15 will become pregnant. Add spermicidal vaginal jelly, foam, film or suppository and this number drops to three.

I do not how long it takes to get "sticky" but I have not ecperienced in many years. If you are on a sex marathon, they do need to be replenished.

Trust me; I do not work in a sex store.

i bought ky 2 in 1 warming massage and personal lubricant. i gave my girlfriend a massage, fingered her. then gave her oral. i could taste the ky. it didn't taste real bad, but i was just wondering whether it was bad for me to swallow that?

Is it bad to swallow it? No. Is it bad to drink the bottle? Yes! Remember when these products are manufactured as massage/lube/etc. they do expect some will taste it. I thought it had the nastiest taste personally! Worst it may do is cause you to have some GI "issues"...

i have tried many different lubes, and ALL of them burn like HELL
KY liquid is the only thing i can sort of stand, and even that still causes some burning.

recently my guy and i went to a sex shop, and bought sample packets of damn near everything they had on the shelves, and all of them burned horribly. (they were all water based and most were glycerin free) :(

are there any other ones you would recommend for sensitive skin types?

Have you tried surgilube or KY in the tube which the gyn doc uses???
Have you tried surgilube or KY in the tube which the gyn doc uses???
any other form of KY besides the plain liquid burns, but i have never heard of surgilube...

Look for it in a pharmacy. Also, years ago there were vaginal inserts women who suffered from dryness could use (usually secondary to menopause) they lasted all day...look for those as well. I believe they were called Replenish.

My fav would have to be WetStuff Gold, last ages and easy enough to clean up too. Very good.
KY is crap to me

me and my girl did the same but my cock felt like it was on fire. i had to stop and go shower.

Just out of curiousity, how much do each of those run?

Yeah, any of the KY warming stuff has always made me feel the same burning feeling. Definitely unpleasant!

More about lube!

Hi,

Just two quick words about lube... if you are SUPER sensitive, try a Silicone lube (eros is the most popular). They are really long-lasting and great for anyone that is sensitive. Silicone is also ok to use with condoms and other latex safer sex stuff.

Also, be careful of nonoxynol 9 (spermicide). It has been found to actually cause small tears in the vagina or ass and can actually increase your risk of HIV because of the little tears. Most sex educators are saying to just stay away from it. Wikipedia has a great article about it.

xo,
searah
Yeah, I can't stand nonoxynol9. I don't think any top I've ever played with had a condom with it on, but I tried wearing one and it burned like an S.O.B. NOT a sexy feeling!

WHOA!!! Hold on a bit.

Non-9 is one of three spermicides commonly in use in commercial products. It has been the most popular spermicide for fifty years. Now, the story you think you know about:

About six years ago there was a major research project to determine whether Non-9 would also be some protection against the HIV. It was determined that Non-9 could cause some weakness of the skin. This is much more important in anal sex than vaginal sex. The rectum is one cell thick and any weakness is bad news. The vagina is forty cells thick and a little weakness makes no difference. The skin of the anus and rectum are not intended to be stretched; the vagina is designed to be stretched to admit penis and allow babies to pass through.

Prostitutes for generations have lived with Non-9 in them for days at a time. Prostitutes today are usually on the pill, require condoms and use spermicidal vaginal jelly as a lubricant. They cannot be too safe.

Most manufactureres today (of both lubricated condoms and of the spermicides themselves) have put on a warning to use only once a day. This is definitely a good warning for anal sex but among homosexual males, there is no reason to use it at all. For vaginal sex I do not know of any of us in the medical field who are particularly concerned.

Like it or not, Non-9 has probably protected more women than any other product in the world - whether diaphragm users, condom users or simply users of spermicidal inserts.

Be careful what you pass on as fact.

WIKIPEDIA? Not a Reliable source by any means....it's not a professional journal...cite it in College & your are tossed out!

Over the years there are some dissertations which defend spermicides may help reduce the risk of STD's. Trust it? NEVER! Spermicides are for vaginal contraception. Condoms & STD testing reduce potential health risks of disease Transmission. BCP & other methods such as c. caps & diaphragms are for BC purposes.

Spermicide on condoms for anal...OUCH!

So as not to be misunderstood . . .

What I was referring to was a burning sensation on my penis when I attempted to wear one. This, more than likely was an allergy type reaction that would be unique to me or at least a small percentage of the population. I used it because it was all that was available on that particular encounter.

Anyway, as I am gay I don't have to worry about it. ;) I make sure I always have standard condoms with no spermicides around.

Gotcha DVD! Thought you were worrying about getting preggers, LOL!

I may LOOK preggers, but thankfully I don't have to worry about the real deal. LOL Being gay does have a few perks!

Anyone have experiance with "Wet" lubricants? I just got a flavored one, havn't used it yet.
Anyone have experiance with "Wet" lubricants? I just got a flavored one, havn't used it yet.
They're okay, nothing special. Sorta the "Budweiser" of lubes . . . easily available, not too expensive, gets the job done. I haven't used the flavored ones (although even the "unflavored" has a slightly sweet taste).

What makes a lube standout? haha.

I don't really have any experiance with them, so what are defining qualitys?

Slickness vs. a kind of sticky, especially when they start to dry out. The silicones are way more expensive but you don't need as much and they don't dry out very easily, but they can stain sheets and are really hard to wash off your hands. If you're in the bedroom and have closed the door make sure to have a towel or something to open the door with . . . your hands will just slip and slide on the nob! lol

And then of course there's the KY jelly type. It's good for beginner's anal and probably tight vaginal (wouldn't know myself of course!) because it lays down a thicker coating making it easier to slide in. (I mean, all doctors use it). It drys out pretty fast though.

I enjoy the WET masaage/bath oils very much. We very rarely need to use lube, but have a bottle of the Wet "Light" lube, which is not as sticky and icky as the others we have tried. A vendor at Shibaricon threw in a sample pack of several Wet products with a purchase. When and if I ever get around to trying them 'll get back to you.

That would be great, thanks!

loosecannon try wet platnum i think that is the best silicone base lube on the market i have tons of experiance will all the lubes listed above and personaly i hate wet brand but platnum its one of the bests i have ever used and everyone i have used them with loved them including my current gf and she is extreamly senstive
