You should consult your doctor. I'm sure he will understand, it's probably a common side effect to your condition. I don't think anyone but your doctor should be giving you that advice because god only knows what is in any of the OTC supplements - could be something that does more harm than good. Better to be safe about it and ask the doctor if there's anything you can do in the meantime before surgery.

While I don't disagree with the advice given... I'd say that there are some things that can be done safely. The biggest one is to share the concerns with your partner (as you seem to be doing since you say it is frustrating for both of you).

Faced with physical factors it becomes even more important to realize the many facets of sex. While it is a biological process, it has so many more dimensions.

It can be a form of communication -- one that is often misinterpreted. If there are physical factors that limit or prevent you from expressing love in a sexual manner, that doesn't mean the love is not present and it doesn't mean it shouldn't be expressed in other ways. Make sure you both understand that. Do not allow each other to withdraw and reach erroneous conclusions about how you feel towards each other simply because the body isn't working.

Because it is communication, sex can take many forms. Figure out what you do feel like doing and do it. You may not be up to a four course meal, but a little snack might serve well.

Sex is only one form of making love. Figure out other ways to "make love." One of the things sex often accomplishes is that it allows us to experience the intimacy we feel... find ways to experience intimacy. Find ways to make love that take full advantage of the entire person. In a very real sense you have an incredible opportunity if you can view it as such and become a bit creative and adventuresome!

And in the course... don't under-estimate how much energy and focus must go into getting well. In a not-so-weird way, you and hubby sharing that is yet another form of making love, you know.
