I am in the same boat with you. My boyfriend and I met online, while he was stationed in Iraq. He's in the army. We started "going together", and almost 8 months later we finally met in person. We saw each other every day for 3.5 weeks, before he had to go back to Texas (I'm in California). So it's a bit of a long bus ride for us, too. Plus, him being in the army makes it more difficult, because he has trouble getting vacation.
While we've never had phone sex, we did do some things while online. Both of us had a web cam, and I highly recommend you trying something like that if you haven't already. I let him watch me get myself off, and he loved. It drove him crazy.
