I am 16 years old and I am a virgin.
I masturbate regularly, but more and more I just want to get me a girlfriend, and eventually have sex.
So I decided to give masturbation up for lent, taking off the movie "40 days and 40 nights".
I don't really know why I am telling you all this, but probably because I bet not many people have successfully done this before. I guess I'm also hoping this will drive me to 'get in the game' and get some action sooner rather than later.
Does anybody think I will complete this? Has anybody here done it themselves?
I think lent this year is something like 45 days, so nobody underestimate the enormity of this task.
If this makes you happy so be it. The last thing I'd give up for Lent would be sex. Chocolate if I had to! Stick with the "standard" over-indulgence of food & work out extra! Or alcohol. Sex? Never, life is too short.
Why give up anything? What has "god" given up for you? His alleged son was resurrected, so he never really was given up.
Let's not pull religions into this, he has a question and that's that. I'd think giving up sex/masturbation would be a tough one =p. You will prob get some wet dreams from the way your body naturally has to dish out your semen when it builds up too much. Plus I believe that it is proven that if you masturbate or at least orgasm twice a week it helps in prevention of prostate problems later in life. Just something to consider. I personally would give up something like an addictive game or food item like sera was discussing. My g/f was thinking about giving up chocolate and then she thought about it and changed to limiting it rather then taking it all away =). She loves sweets and is like me, we seem to not gain a pound no matter what we eat.
Several of my male friends and I did this on a lark. I won, although they informed me that I cheated (because I don't masturbate except on rare occasions, though that's another story.) Three of them (including my ex) made it to one week. One made it four weeks and said it was one of the hardest things he'd ever done.
I could go months without...well actually I have haha. I'm a girl though, so I imagine it'd be harder for guys. Good luck though.

My boyfriend is actually giving up masturbation for lent as well, if that makes you feel any better. I know it's only been a few days but so far he is doing very well. I think it's harder for guys not to as well but so long as you have the willpower to do it, I think you'd be able to make it all the way through Lent. Good luck!

The male actually has a p-hysiological need for releasing semen. The male body is constantly making sperm and semen and the body needs to get rid of it. Sometimes, it is we dreams and sometimes milky urine but the excess has to be disposed of.
We women have no such physiological need. Nature seems to have designed it this way to ensure that men try to imprenate women - and that requires ejaculatio. We women get just as pregnant whether or not we reach orgasm.

I know you asked Marko this but I wanted to put my two cents in, if you don't mind...I've never once masturbated until about a year and a half ago, and I'm perfectly find and healthy, and I'm 22 now. So I'm sure 40+ days of not going at it would be fine.
Cant say it isnt healthy for you, just that it has been studied that orgasming twice a week regularly helps prevention of prostate problems. It is something like eating cheerios can help lower your cholesterol which in the future would be better for your heart. Does that mean it is unsafe if you dont eat them?...dont think so. Just up to you really. It is your body and your choice.

This is so different--all over a silly movie? If it's a religious thought; you are supposed to give up something of yourself which is meaningful. I look at it this way; I am Catholic...being unwed sex is a "sin" that part of your falls under self-gratification. I can understand the idea that giving up masturbation can help to inspire you to get out there and find girls. Masturbation is the easy means of pleasure, usually right after you get that release and satisfaction you don't feel inspired or have a need to go out there and find a girl.
It's kind of like giving up TV or gaming as a means to get you out of the house and socializing with people.

Tell that priest to go take a jump! If anything is sinful, it is him telling you a thing like that. Masturbation is a normal activity that everybody engages in, there is nothing sinful about it. I'll even bet that priest masturbates too.
Give up masturbation or sex for 45 days?? Well I'm on week 3 of no sex OR masturbation. Not really by choice though. I am in new hire training for a new Airline. I have to endure 2 months of training, more then 800 miles away from my wife, while sharing a hotel room with another guy. For 2 months straight with only one break to go home for 2 days. It SUCKS! I'm so horny for my wife right now that my friggin balls hurt and I can't do a damn thing about it.
I would never give up sex by choice. It sucks....
