Hello everyone! Im new to this board. I have a question, Okay so i was on the depo-provera shot for 3 months (as long as it lasts) i didnt get my second one, and have been off of it for about 3 and a half months now. I had a period (the first one since my shot) then about 3 days ago i had unprotected sex twice. Now im not naive about the whole "can i get pregnant" but i was wondering how long it takes for the shot to completely get out of my body. Ive tried researching this but i cant find any answers and since everyone here seems so nice and helpful i thought that someone could give me answer. I am scared that i might be but i dont want to stress over it to much so im going to wait if my period shows up. Also this is kind of embarrassing for me to bring up, but i was reading some posts and read that diarrhea shows up too when your pregnant i might be wrong but ive been having that, but anyways, Thank you for taking the time to read this.

~Just a question~

I was under the impression that "the shot" stopped ovulation, and therefore menstruation, thereby negating the possibility of pregnancy. So, it would logically follow that if you didn't keep on your shots, and have gotten a cycle since you've been off of them, that you would be ovulating again. I can't fathom a guess as to how often or regularly that will occur. To answer the question, I believe that the medication is officially "out of your body" and not stopping ovulation anymore. If I'm wrong about how "the shot" works, I apologize, and will now shut up.
He is right, once your period has started again it is no longer effective. I have been on the shot for 7 years. They tell you that even with one shot it could take a year to have a period. Now that your period has started, and if you do not want a little one running around, I would go retain some form of birth control. As far as the diarrhea, I have never heard that, it was not an issue when I was pregnant. Best bet is to take a pregnancy test. Best of luck!!
Hormonal contraception is dosed to work for 99.999% of women for the specified time and dose. After the stated time, all bets are off because our bodies each process it a bit differently.
The moment the three months is up after a shot, you are at risk whether or not you have a period. It takes the body a few months to regulate itself again and, in the meantime, ovulation and menstruation are unpredictable. Even after your first period, it still is not completely regular and predictable. You are at risk and the worse news is that even a late period will not mean much because you are not completely regulated post-shot, yet.
Get a home pregnancy test, or better, two, of different brands. Follow the directions EXACTLY. If they are clear you are probably OK. If they are questionable, see your doctor. A Plan B, handful of pills or RU-486 may be needed but will assuredly make you rather sick for forty-eight hours.
The diarrhea means nothing.
Thank you all for your replies. They helped alot. I just cant believe that i was so stupid. Im was always so careful about this stuff. But i have one other question. When should i get the pregnany test? I mean would it be to early to get one tonight? Thanks again for all of your replies!
They have some new ones out that can detect pregnancy sooner. May just have to go read them. No, this is not fun but, that may be the only way. You can probably look on the net to read so you can just go and get one.
Read the instructions. Some of them state a minimum time from the unprotected action. Others are timed from a period. Your timing on a period is questionable because of having only one period after coming off depo.
Good luck and GET TWO
Hello, its me again. I dont want to bother you all again, but i dont know who else to ask. I got 2 pregnancy tests, well actually i asked my friend to get them, and he came back with cheap ones from the dollar store lol. But anyway, They were both negative, and the box didnt say a specific time to test. But i guess where im getting at is my boobs for the past couple of days have been so sore i can barely stand it.Plus veins are becoming visible in them too, its weird. I have gained weight becuz im eating so much and im almost a month, if im thinking right, late. Im also having slight discharge. So is there a possibility that i am pregnant and the tests could be wrong? Thank you again in advance for helping me.
For godsake, you are messing with your future. You do not want cheap ones from the dollar store. Heaven knows whether they are discontinued, out of dat or whatever. They have told you nothing. If you cannot face up to buying a pregnancy test kit, you lack the maturity to be taking the risks associated with sex.
The big story is that you are a month late. Surely your mother, sister, teacher, friend, aunt or whoever has told you what that means. The likelihood is that you are about to be mommy. There are alternatives but you have to stop doing dumb things and take your future in your own hands.
GET TO A DOCTOR TODAY!!!!!! Women's health clinic, STD Clinic, school infirmary or whatever will do but get nose to nose with a mature woman who can explain the facts of life to you. Albeit a bit late.
This is not going to have been a contraceptive failure; it will be a failure of you to take care of yourself and doing a series of really dumb things.
let us know how the test comes out
