ya also sometimes need to "unload the gun"as to keep it tame in public. also, an orgasm for a guy is soooo different than for a woman,,,purely a physical thing for a man,,,women, MOST women need emotion, forplay,,a lot of work ... basically, a guy can do himself in 15 seconds,,,to have sex with a woman takes 1 hour + ,,, ... ,,, not to mention the 6 hours to get your partners good graces (can ya tell i been married a while?)
I dont know about other guys but masturbating releases alot of tension for me and I do it when I am in a bad mood sounds wierd I know but it helps. A good ejaculation can change your whole day around!!!

I think part of the reason is that its so easy for guys to get aroused. You're just sitting there minding your own business and suddenly a random thought passes through your head and instant hardon. So you might as well enjoy it
Of course masturbating for guys doesn't always mean that you're in the mood for sex. Like if I'm laying in bed with an erection poking the mattress, most of the time I just want the thing to go away so I can sleep, but after 15 or 20 min of waiting you just get sick of it and go masturbate to get rid of it.
My sex drive equals that of a typical man (always horny), however I do not masturbate. I wait for my husband to get home and make him do it for me

Asside from the pain of chaiffing... if it were up to me, I'd have an orgasm every hour or two. Not sure if it's a "guy thing" or what... but no-matter HOW much sex I get... within a couple hours, I could easily be in the mood to "work-one-out" on my own.
