If a man tries to force himself to urinate after sex, is it more difficult?

Hey everyone. I am just curious. My boyfriend and I had some pretty hot and passionate sex the other day. Well, he immediately went to the restroom afterward to clean up and because he needed to urinate. Well, he was in there a good 20 minutes before he was able to finish. I went in there and he told me what the problem was and I told him that maybe he just needed to give up for a little bit and try again after 5 or 10 minutes. Well, he wouldn't give up because he said that it felt like it was almost out or something. Of course, I can understand what he was saying but not completely since I am not a man. But anyway, my question is, did he make it more difficult for himself by trying to force himself to urinate when obviously his body just wasn't ready?

In my opinion: your option seems much better; go again later. Forcing your body doesn't work...

I'd say that if he has trouble urinating or the need to go but nothing comes out more frequently (also not just after sex), a litle stop at the doc would be a good idea.

If not, I'm no doctor, but by my knowledge when it comes to urinating it's mostly about relaxing a few muscles and it will flow. Perhaps he was tightening himself up by trying so hard? I know of men who can't urinate when nervous, because they tighten up. Also heard of men with UTI to have such problems, in part because it hurts. Another thing I could think of would be the prostate, since that influences the possibility to urinate. Perhaps it could still be a bit enlarged after sex? I'm not sure if that's possible/normal. Perhaps Brandye could enlighten us? :)

i think it's normal....sometimes i feel like i have to pee right after sex and it's almost there but it doesn't happen.......especially if i'm still hard or semi hard.......you have to give it a little time before you can use the bathroom......he's still in arousal mode

The little valve in the prostate that diverts between the bladder and the prostate opening into the urethra sometimes takes a bit to switch. Waiting it out or waiting for it is up to the man involved. Immersion in a warm to hot sitzbath helps relaxation and will get it reset more quickly.

And in addition...

urination while (still) erect is difficult to impossible when a toilet is involved because establishing a proper aiming angle is difficult to impossible. Pressing down on the penis will often partially close off the urethra and this will also make urination difficult.

Best scenario is recognize the points Brandye and I offer and encourage him to just wait things out until his erection subsides.

Ah yeah, I see what you mean. Usually it doesn't take long at all for him to be flaccid again after sex. Also, he always sits to urinate because he has severe knee problems and it hurts too much for him to stand and urinate. When he was in his senior year of high school, he blew both of his knees out at once and had to have surgery done on both knees so unfortunately it now seriously affects his life.
