The Hymen

I'm a male, and I think I just found out I'm really stupid with this particular issue.

I have never had real sex, only hand jobs and fingering. But, with fingering, I seem to find the little hood when I put my finger(s) in.

My last girlfriend was "supposedly" a virgin and said she had never masterbated or had any other boyfriend. So, Does the hymen break when you first finger a girl? or was the hood that i could reach with my fingers her hymen?

girls sometimes lose there hymens from other things other then sex. like vigourous (sp) exercise, tampon use, etc. so some girls may be a virgin but have like no hymen what so ever.

If you know what to look for, the hymen is visible with a little look

ok so this is kinda sad but i'm a girl and having not had proper sex ed i was confused on the hymen myself (i had the gist of it but didn' tknow much) so i googled it and wikipedia cleared it all up for me

apparently it doens't completely go away until after a girl ahs a baby
and the hood thing i think you mean is probably the clit.

The hymen is an anular tissue (donut shaped) that circles the entrance to the vagina. It has a hole in the center to allow menstraul juices to escape. It is usually a very thin tissue and begins life attached all the way around. by the midteens, many hymens have disappeared - tampons, sport, riding bicycles or horses and a thousand other things can tear it. This usually leaves it partially attached. Hence, the "little hood." The hymen offers some resistance to penetration (if it is still there) and may bleed a bit when torn by penis or other object.

It often takes several acts of intercourse to completely eliminate all traces of the hymen. Someone a few weeks ago discovered a "little ball of skin" at the back of her vaginal opening. Probably the remains of her hymen and one or two more times with her boyfriend and it would be gone. Once in a great while I encounter a particularly tough hymen on examination. I always offer to help her along a bit with a touch of scalpel. A few drops of blood, and she is relieved of a difficult first time. There will still be some remnants around the entrance and there may still be a bit of "pulling."

We doctors make no judgments of virginity based on the absence of the hymen. About half the 16 yo's I examine have none or simply shreds. They may or may not have had sex. If the hymen is completely intact, very likely not. I have discovered one pregnancy in a teen woman with an intact hymen.

To "see" the hymen requires a spreading of the lips. There are many diagrams and pics available that show all the components of us women. Put female reproductive organs in a search engine and look away! I refer patients to clitical.com.
