Human Monogomy: The Real Norm?

Another topic of interest I've read recently....

...for the grammar/spelling gurus....yes I realized I misspelled Monogamy in the headline....lol

Thats why you make them cook and clean!
Thats why you make them cook and clean!
Yeah, I have seen some cleaning...they forget to move the furniture! Cook? Ughmmm....I like to do it. 3 b/f material or toys? Sure. Husbands? No thanks! LOL! I'll leave that one for you and EEK!;)

I think men definitely are not built to be monogamous--it's only through a choice to be so during a marriage they may be; they are historically intended to reproduce. Women are nurturers and are historically years back intended to take care of their offspring---leads to monogamy. But overall, I do not believe either sex is monogamous naturally, only through choice or forced social norms.

Did anyone happen to read about the spider that gets eaten, but leaves an appendage inside his mate to prevent her from mating again?

Whole new meaning to breaking it off!
Did anyone happen to read about the spider that gets eaten, but leaves an appendage inside his mate to prevent her from mating again?

Whole new meaning to breaking it off!
Is it not a Black widow which mates with the male and then kills him?

The poor male Preying Mantis is killed and eaten during mating....he's still pumping away after the female bites off the top half of his body...

It's the "Widow Spider" she kills the male mate after reproduction. And I complained about a divorce? LOL!

Actually it's many species of spiders...the Widow family is just the most common since the Black Widow has such a world renowned reputation. Many species of male Tarantulas developed hooks on their front legs, to hold back the fangs of the larger female during mating. Some species bring a "gift" of an insect to feed the female so they might actually get a second shot at her.

Not a second shot, Thresher - the first chance! Then the male does a littel dance and he scoots around behind her and does the deed while she's nibbling the gift. Afterwards he runs for his life!! This works because by ingesting him, she gets additional protein for her offspring and his.

The male mantis is caught in a dilemma. He oh so wants to but he knows that she's dangerous so he has sex but does it poorly. The female "helps" him out of this quandry by biting off his head whereupon his sexual performance improves. And she gets additional protein for her and his offspring.

And here you men complain about marriage!

Monogamy is in the best interests of the children which is why we, as a society, do it. It increases the children's chances of survival. Otherwise I could have my three husbands as I desire.

What I meant was the male spider gets to insert both his pedipalps. The reproductive organs (gonopore) are separate from the actually "tools" that handle the sperm. A drop is extracted from the open gonopore and applied to a thin silk. The tips of the pedipapls then dip into the sperm drop and are strewn along the web line into the female. The second "attempt" allows a better chance that the mating will be successful.

I'm just glad I'm human....:D.

It shows a reason why the saying "It takes a village to raise a child" is such a popular saying. Multiple fathers or mothers to help support the young offers more chances to learn useful skills.

Well EEK, if you could marry all, would you? And would it be out of lust or love?!? :D

Three men? Yoo much maintainance for me...unless they want to go out and mow the lawn together! And too much laundry/cooking.

One man to hold the high income job, one to do the housework/raise kids, and the other as dumb as a door nail but the body of Adonis...you can guess what job he can fill...

Or one with all of the above ;)

Oh come now, three men so I can have fun and games all of the time. (You can hire cooking and cleaning out.) 4 hours of sex three times per week with each - should be FUN!! That's my retirement dream - a small estate with a nice house, filled with cold champagne, and hot men.

Definitely HIRE The cooking and cleaning plus the gardening. Not even certain
how to response to EEK's retirement package. LOL

So basically EEK, 48 hours of sex. Not bad. Definitely sounds fun.

Oh and Thresher...the one with the body is used for doing laundry and being used as a model when you want to hem a dress correct?

Hmmmm, MY kind of parties all year long! What's not to like?
Hmmmm, MY kind of parties all year long! What's not to like?
Explain THAT to the neighbors! LOL! Giving them something to talk about for sure!

After reading EEK's "liasons" (not meant any manner as disrespect), I
must admit at social events I tend to scan the room and WONDER.....
LOL

Hence the need for an estate, Sera - to keep those pesky nosy neighbors far away!

CL - you never know who swings, hun; unless you have "swing-dar". LOL

Sera are you talking about "watchers".........? "Swing-dar" lingo I am not
familiar with evidently. LOL
Sera are you talking about "watchers".........? "Swing-dar" lingo I am not

Even had Helicopters fly over to see what happens at some homes...it's actually quite common in this area. I do not swing...not yet.

"not yet"??? Helicopters now that is a bit over the top isn't it? Has EEK
opened the door to new ideas for you there Sera? I adhere to the EEK idea
on an estate just not that far out in the "country.";)

Personally, I don't care who is who--mind my own business. Main issues we get is helicopters which come into large property area--blocked off with gates & fencing. They fly in; against the law (the on lookers) to see what they can get a glimpse of. And have been known to photograph. Mainly they are looking for those who do not wish to be found & reside here for confidentiality purposes. Not uncommon to see the VP fly in to meet w/his friend. But when they are scoping the area; it gets annoying. We are in a country setting with very larges estates with large amounts of property.

I have thought about what EEK said; only issue is I cannot hang with those who are married. I am not married & do not wish to get an attachment to someone who is married. She said there are singles as well; I am not certain how I feel about it. Based upon the people I meet who are unmarried--to date I am not impressed.
