Most of us just wear it away through tampon use. Athletes often stretch to the point that is disappears. Using the age old mirror technique you can see it - if it is there.
Ayssie gives good advice. All women should have a gyn exam before becoming sexually active. During these exams, I sometimes offer to cut a tough hymen. In very rare cases (I have never seen one) the hymen may not have an opening. It must be cut to allow flow of the menstrual juices. Most 16 year olds I see have no, or only slight remains, of the hymen.
Im not quite sure babe but i'll tell you something that may be helpful. I spent my whole highschool life trying to use tampons. Every single month i'd try and try and end up crying because it just wouldnt go in...all of my friends could, and to me it just seemed physically impossible ( not just the pain factor but i tried everything-literally) i got so depressed about it eventually when i was 16/17 i went to the doctor about it because i had read somewhere that 1 in 200 girls apparently ned their hymen CUT because it hasnt been removed itself so i thought maybe this was my problem. The doctor just said ok lay down and as embarrassing as it was, she inserted a tampon in for me ( i didnt have my period at the time) and it hurt for a few seconds and then it was in! later on that night was pretty scarey though as i had trouble getting it out haha and when i got my period next i was worried i wouldnt be able to do it but i could! so the point of my story is that I think the doctor broke my hymen that day and she's now my hero and i havent worn a pad since- I detest them! yukky ( 6 years ago) but yeah some people break their hymen without even realising it ( through sport etc) i was so happy that day. It even meant I was able to lose my virginity later on without much trouble, and dont even get me started on how many sex toys i use now! Goodluck!
