how do ppl get pregnant ....

I guess my thread title makes me sound clueless, but dw i understand about the birds and the bee's.... i just didn't know what title to put it under

well this qustion is one out of curiositity... not really a problem for me.

I was wondering how it is ppl get pregnant, even though they use protection during sex ie: a condom.
Does it only happen wen the condom breaks or when a couple dont have safe sex?
Can it happen when it happen at all, when u have used a condom and it hasnt broken?

Im just curious...

A girl i know, who's 17, has just gotten preganant, and i was talkin with a friends about it and were wondering if she got pregnant because her and her bf werent being safe, or if it was just an accident they didn't realise happened

Also im one of those ppl who always get worried whether i would get pregnant, despite me and my bf being very after during sex. Im not on birth control but we do always use a condom. I always just worry that it could happen. I just wanna know if as long as ur sex goes successfully(-in the sence i mean that condom doesn't break/ u didn't have 'unsafe' sex) u should be ok with not gettin pregnant

I think you are usually ok if the condom doesn't break. Its those times it can break or can slip off.
That is why is it good to back something as a backup. If you are just using condoms, it would help to also use like a spermicidal insert of some kind inside of you. So if in the chance, the condom does break, the spermicide will be there.
According to the Mayo Clinic, 2 out of every 100 condoms break. Lubrications may be used to help prevent condoms from tearing, but not all lubricants are safe to use with latex condoms.

How effective is a male condom?
The typical use of male condoms, which is the average way most people use them, has a failure rate of 14-15%. This means that 14-15 people out of every 100 will become pregnant during the first year of use. Spermicidal agents increase the effectiveness to over 95% when used correctly and consistently.
i found this on americanpregnancy.org

Also, nothing is 100% except not having sex.
BC pills aren't 100% either, I think on those, if 100 women take them correctly in a year, 3 will become pregnant. But those chances increase if you miss pills or take them late.

As you know there are many types of contraceptives. What is important to understand is that they all have different reliability or security ratings. None are 100% effective; therein lies the problem.

Condoms have been known to tear or break, leak around the open end of the barrel, or, come off.

Pills regardless of formulation or type are more reliable yet if they do not fail a woman statistically, they can by carelessness and forgetfulness. If she forgets to take a pill one day, the window of opportunity for becoming pregnant is then opened.

For teenagers especially, and for anyone else who is not prepared and who does not want to become an unwed parent, my recommendation is to always look out for and take care of Number One--you. If you are a guy and do not want the plans for your future forever changed, or you cannot support and raise a child, then you need to be using a condom.

If you are a girl and do not want the plans for your future forever changed, or you cannot support and raise a child, then you need to be using some form of high reliability contraceptive.

DO NOT ever rely upon the other person for your protection and well being. Practicing safe sex is a joint responsibility. Using two contraceptives greatly improves the margin of safety.

I think I have answered your last comment about being worried. Pills are not all that expensive. See your doctor, or, go to a Planned Parenthood office for help.

If you do not want to use the pill as they are not for everyone, then use a diaphragm and spermacide. Your doctor can quickly fit you so you can purchase the proper one at a pharmacy.

At the very least, use a spermacide along with the condom.
