Amen Oberon! I usually bottom because I both like it but also I have problems topping and staying hard with a condom on (which of course is the only way I'd do it except for my partner). But if I catch a hint of 'tude from the other guy that he's too "macho" or whatever to bottom then the deal's off. The "dominant / submissive" aspect of it that some guys buy into is a load of crap and the act has nothing to do with how "masculine" you are. Look at the number of posts on this board from straight guys who enjoy having their asses manipulated by their wives or girlfriend. It's simply another sexual activity and (for me) carries no more significance than any of the others.

As I said, I can deal with a guy who says, "It's painful." or "I don't like it." but the attitude of "I'm too good..." GRRRRRR.... I probably fall fairly close to the butch catagory (or so I prefer to believe...LOL) and there is NOTHING submissive about my sexual goings-on. Bottom guys can- and usually ARE- the more agressive of gay men.

If anyone were to attempt to bet on the "masculine" qualities of gay men by that activity they'd be out a lot of money. In fact, it seems almost comically opposite from my experience - most of the "biker type" guys or grizzly bears that you'd expect to be cavemen tops are bottoms, and most of the more "fem" type guy are tops! LOL! Strange world . . . . .

You're right about the public perception of gays and anal sex, but in actuality it's not the #1 activity (oral probably is). For me, I love anal . . . mostly receiving but also giving. My partner is lukewarm about it . . . . he'll "top" most of the time but isn't wild about "bottoming". And yes, there's definitely lots of guys who don't like anal sex either way. There are plenty of alternatives - oral, mutual masturbation, "frot". With any sexual partner I've been with I've never had problems finding a way to have fun, whether they like anal or not.

Oh, and face to face . . . there's the over the shoulder anal position that allows you to be face-to-face (or close enough!) and handjobs, frot, ect. Actually, we end up in this position more often than not.

Yeah, there does seem to be a stigma about gay guys all liking anal. It seems kind of like some of the others like all gay guys liking thongs, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of gay guys that wear boxers and find thongs just silly.

Interesting that some think oral is more common.

Boxer guy here. I've never worn a thong in my life (being overweight I don't think it would make a pretty picture!)

Stereotypes are just that. They usually have a small basis in fact, but get applied to any and all. Gay people are no different than everyone else; the most flamboyant get the attention, the rest of us quietly fit into society and just live our lives.

Well, there were rumours he did . . . lol. He was sort of a "try anything, you only go around once" kinda guy. He was also randy as hell.

Not sure if you're referring to the "swordfighting" risks of frot, but as far as sexual activity is concerned it's one of the safest, since no exchange of bodily fluid.

You can add me to the catagory that has NEVER worn a thong. YEEEECH! Flossing your teeth is bad enough! I'm a jockey/boxer-brief guy. And for most of my younger days, prefered to go commando. I don't really even find thongs or g-strings sexy for someone else.

Oh! The rumor I've heard concerning Errol Flynn is that he played for both teams.
