Here's a question, Why do some gay men act so feminine? The only example of what I am talking about off hand is Cujo? I'm not sure how to spell his name.

Cujo was a Stephen King novel, and he was a rabid St. Bernard. LOL! I'm not sure I know who your you're referring to.

As to your question . . . I really have no idea. I don't, not because I think it's wrong or anything . . . it's just not me. There are tons of gay men who are completely indistinguishible from straights. There are a percentage that are more effeminate, but it's not an affectation, it's just the way they are. There's probably been a scientific study that addresses this, but I've never seen it.

I think the guy being referenced is the one who is the fashion commentary to the stars...you see him pop up during the Oscars.

there is also a guy in the interior design business. Christopher Lowell? Am I thinking of the right guy? It is just somewhat difficult for me to watch or listen to these men that act and talk like that. I mean, I don't know any women that act or talk like that. Their movements are so exagerated as is the way they talk.

Hi Looking,
I think it probably has to do with "camp"- meaning that over-the-top flamboyant gay man stereotype. You have to remember that until fairly recently gay men had to hide their sexuality. So, there was basically a secret language... including things like pronoun switching and refering to friends as "sister" and such.

I personally believe that this has continued as a strike back against the "you MUST be straight" world. I think as gay people become more accepted that you'll see a lot less of the over-the-top variety.

That being said, some men are just more effeminate than others... quite a few of them are even straight.
