Silicone caulking for use in bathrooms and around windows don't use that stuff! Not a good idea.

I have no idea really what you can use to make a good mold of your penis that is safe really. First things that come to mind are plaster, but if you even try that, wear a condom, lube inside and outside of the condom, and figure out a way to split the mold well without loosing all the definition. Im no expert in that area.

Although, after making the mold, you could use a few things to create the dildo with. Some things that come to mind are silicone caulk, a medium strength metal (metal dildos are fun) but that would take a mold that is heat resistant, or hell you could even use candle wax if your ok with havin to remake it, and it being hard instead of pliable. When using the caulk do it in layers about .5 inch thick at a time and let them mostly dry but not totaly, then apply the next layer. Let the whole thing dry for a week outside in the air.

Even though it is possible make a homemade one, I dont suggest it unless you use the kit. I really dont suggest spending the time and effort on the mold/creating the dildo because its not going to be that great really. Youd be better off either buying a $20 one form a local toy shop or online, or using something other than a mold.

3. English cuccumbers
4. small diameter round handled kitchen utencil
5. small handle of a hand tool
6. wooden pencil (new and not sharpened) insert the eraser end
7. long neck glass or plastic bottle
8. plexiglass rod, rounded on one end
9. plastic handle of a fork/spoon/knife eating utencil

I suppose if you get a chunk of plastic and have someone who knows how to use tooling equipment you should be able to ask them to form it for you. Or go to Home Depot purchase a wooden spindle and use a wood lathe and then sand it so it's super fine (not course), then use a brown piece of paper bag to go over the entire piece to get an ultra smooth finish, be certain to use a non toxic sealer on it first or put a condom over it. If inclined you could find a 2x4 piece of wood and cut it so it's a cylinder, then do the above.

Is there some reason why making your own is special? Never having needed one (I was born with all the equipment I've ever needed), maybe I just don't get it.

There are two questions here. The o/p explained his reason in his post.
The second is a personal choice. Some people like toys and enjoy using them, others can go through life without them. To each his/her own.

I'm a potter, and I've occasionally thought of making a dildo out of clay as a gag gift for my girlfriend. You can shape it however you like. The finished dildo would be a very ridged, durable, and possibly very beautiful finished product. If you do use this method, I would use a Stoneware clay. It's the same clay that most dinner plates are made of. I'd also find a nice NON TOXIC glaze. You could end up with something that is really interesting, a real conversation piece ;)

Strange. I can't say I've ever used a dildo, but it sounds interesting. I'll stick with my fingers for now, I think.....

Just buy a proper dildo. Seriously it's not worth trying household stuff. Get a silicone model.

Go to a local art store and buy a can of Insta-Mold, it's close to the same stuff that comes in the kits. I've made several dildos with it. As for the silicone, I don't have a substitute. I use the latex rubber from the kit people. Silicone caulking won't work, and won't be safe to use.

I cigar case (shaped exactly that the cigar inside) is a wonderful thing too
