Your issue with your jaw hurting is not unusual and has been discussed here before. Place your fingers on the joint of the jaw where it connects to the rest of your skull. You will notice when you open and close that there are muscles moving on top of the bone. These muscles are not often called upon to hold a few centimeter diameter object. So they tense up.
