when i went down on my boyfriend he didn't even react. so i could tell right away he wasn't pleased. also it was a red flag when he said, "thanks for trying..." other than experience, HOW CAN I GET BETTER AT THIS?!

You talk to him and find out what he likes, its part his responsibility to give you feedback as to what he likes. It's not a guessing game, try it hit or miss! Read through some of the posts here under "Pleasing Him" there is much talk about BJ's, many have one common denominator, it's not what their partner did that was so wonderful it was that she was confident & focused on pleasing him. But you need feedback from him!
