Hair color

Heh.....I have another one....do you all think blondes actually have more fun....? I am a natural red-head and have always wanted to be blonde.
What steryo-types have you heard (or even experienced) regarding hair color...and we all know the the jokes, so DO NOT REPEAT THEM HERE!
Some cultures regard red-heads as the spawn of the devil or demon children....hahaha! Not too far from the truth in my case!
Some see blonde as being pure and innocent.
Brunette has always been associated with a high intelect.
What do you think? What color is your hair and what color would you prefer or want to be?
(I know this is a pretty light topic...just thought it might be fun to see all the different views from around the world).

To be honest, I have always found the stereotype that blondes are foolish to be quite true...I have 4 blonde cousins, a blonde aunt, and a few blonde friends...and they are some of the most out there people I have ever met. The only red head I knew was a total party girl, like total bad girl. As far as brunettes, I have never really found an major stereotypes.

Im not saying this is true for all, but in my case it is or has been

Heh..."total party girl"....I think that may have some truth. Hair color can tell a lot about a person, honestly!
A quick story: A few months ago I had a pain in my side. I was working on a construction site at the time and my supervisors (and the entire crew) were all men. By noon, the pain became pretty intense and I told my supervisor that I may need to leave early. He said I was "being girly" and I needed to suck it up and stay until the end of the day. I did stay and suffered through the pain and then at the end of the day I drove home. When I got home my fiance convinced me to go to the emergency room...the pain was bad enough to make me sweat...but I thought it was nothing.
When I got to the ER, it was determined that my appendix would need to come out. For pain management my Dr gave me a dose of morphine. I only felt a bit of relief. Then she gave me another dose of a med that is more potent than morphine....again, it didn't do much. All the nurses were around my bed commenting on how tiny I was and how a dose of morphine like that would be enough to knock out a 200 lb man! My doctor then made the comment that red heads apparently have an unusually high tolerance to pain and are also very hard to "put under"....I guess we can handle more pain meds then the average person.
I just thought this was interesting and did some research on the subject and it turns out to be true...just goes to show that hair color does say something about the person!
(Sorry to blab on and on).

I'm naturally a brunette (I guess) but I've been bleaching my hair for the past 3 years or so. Right now I'm a platinum blonde. And yes, I am more or less an idiot, but that was a pre-existing condition...

As far as I'm concerned, a beautiful woman is a beautiful woman regardless of her hair color, although I've always been a bit more attracted to certain types of blondes and redheads because they're unusual. I don't really believe any of the stereotypes, but I have found that most brunettes are way too smart for me.

Natural brunette...highlighted with blond now for years. Notice more men look at you when blond rather then brown...

Well i am a natural blonde male, my hair is platinum. I'm at university studying a Masters in Mechatronic engineering and robotic systems, so it goes to show that we're not *all* stupid although i have met many many blonde people who fit the sterotype perfectly. And yes i am normally attracted to blonde haired women as they stick out more but not so much to red heads. All though a study was done into red haired people and a red haired women is considered to be "lively and passionate" where as red haired men are considered quite geeky and are apprently not wanted by women as much.
But yes i am blonde and not stupid :p

The Different Types of Redheads - Part 1

Well, I think it's a little unfair to say that you're not attracted to anyone with a certain hair color as each has it's own "breeds", so I've decided to take the time to list and describe the sub-categories of all the different hair colors - starting with redheads.

Maybe I'll get to doing the other hair colors if I have time...

Baaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha!!!!! I love it!

I am a brunette. Of course! Who, other than a brunette, can be Queen of the Night? Or an EvilEvilKitten? *EG*

EEK! I knew you were a brunette! Man! I'm good! One point for the red-heads! Hooo-Rahhhh!

Of course I am a brunette! With amber/gold eyes that twinkle with mischief! How else could I seduce dominant men into my restraints?

Does sandy blonde qualify??? Probably not more like a
in "betweener." A dimple or two doesn't hurt either does it??

It's been too long since I've taken any biology classes, but I heard something recently that stated that blonde hair is a recessive trait. That darker hair is usually the dominant gene to get passed onto the children. They also said that blondes may eventually dissapear over time here in America if fresh Nordic blood stops coming here.

I have never heard this about blondes, but I have heard it about red-heads and I imagine if the blonde gene is recessive, then blondes would have the same future. Apparently scientists predict there will be no more red heads left on the earth by the year 2100. The gene is recessive (both parents have to carry the gene) and only about 4% of the human population has red hair to begin with......

CALL OUT TO ALL RED-HEADS....START MAKING BABIES!!!!!

OUR SPECIES IS ON A DECLINE!

Yes, blondes and red-heads are both recessive genes. Brunettes win! Other dominant genetic traits include tall, brown eyes, and dark skin.

So how rare is a tall sandy blonde with medium tan skin??
And what is considered the "norm" as far as skin tone, hair color
and height............all things being equal that is?

Here's one for you! To all the science freaks out there, explain this! I took an advanced biology class in grade twelve thinking it would give me more of a challenge. We were studying genetics at the time and the class was given a work sheet to fill in all the visual genetic traits of that student's grand parents, parents and any siblings. The end result of the work sheet was supposed to describe you (as the student) including your hair color and eye color.
My work sheet WOULD NOT come out accurately. It always came out saying that I had red hair and green eyes. (I have flame-red hair and brown eyes). I asked my biology teacher what was up...he said I was a "genetic anomaly" and no matter what I put into the sheet, a red-head with brown eyes would NEVER be the result. At the end of the class he basically said I was a "screw-up of nature"....ie: in my case, genetics just spontaneously decided to go where they wanted rather than follow the norm.
So, basically, I am a genetic freak....AND PROUD OF IT! Can anyone explain this in more detail??? (Not really sex related...but topic related, nonetheless).

I dig chix with "blue" hair! :p LOL

I know this will not sound scientific in any respect BUT is it beyond the realm
of possibility to think that SOME-THINGS just happen and are as they are
for no apparent reason................in other words, there is no tangible scientific reason for a specific outcome. i.e.--this lady's hair color despite
what the "scientific calculator" says should have been the outcome??

Trust me, Constantlylearning, I am the first one to tell you that I am very proud of my "genetic freakiness"...(although people ask me if I am wearing contacts all the time...argggg). I was just curious to know why my red hair was combined with my dark brown, almost black eyes. After my science teacher said I was a freak of nature I decided to research it on the net and could not find any links for brown-eyed red-heads....but I LIKE being a freak!

"Freakness" tends to evoke thoughts of something strange. Maybe, unique is a better way to describe the genetic outcome. Being unique is, in my opinion, a pretty good thing to have going for you. Don't you think?

Very good point....I am unique in that regard...but I guess I have always identified with "freak of nature" as well...I was in my teens when this was stated by my biology teacher (and actually again brought up infront of the entire mass by my University Biology Prof during a genetics course recently). I guess, to some extend, I have learned that I am {literally} "one-in-a-million". I'm o.k. with that. I just get sick of people constantly asking if I either dye my hair (which I have never done) or if I wear contacts (which I have never done either). Recently, my fiance and I moved to a new city and I made my annual appointment with a new eye-doctor. He KEPT ASKING ME IF MY HAIR COLOR WAS REAL!!!! Argggg!!!! No matter what I told him, he still kept arguing with me that I COULD NOT be a true red-head (and I have never died my hair once in my life). Being a self-proclaimed freak can be frustrating!

Well, a "self-proclaimed freak" doesn't sound so bad. Still being unique
is pretty cool. Just not another grain of sand sifting on the seashore.
Good for you.:)

Remember Dawn - you asked for this! *ahem*

Within the male, the DNA is being mixed and genetic sequences are being slid and jumped around so that every possible permutation is possible. No two spermatazoon are identical. Each female ovum is slightly different from another. Variations are, therefore, to be expected - even those variations who's chance of occuring are very unlikely. Also mutations do occur that upset the whole equation. So if there's a recessive somewhere in the family tree, no matter how improbable, that recessive can re-occur. The lurking recessive.

It isn't your brown eyes - its your red hair, in your case.

‘Constantly learning’...your name doesn't begin with an "S" by any chance...and did you spend any time in Nova Scotia...?
Your comment "Just another grain of sand sifting on the seashore" is an exact comment that I have heard before. Maybe it is just a 'saying' or a regular comment.

EEK...well, that would describe me...nearly noticeable, but always lurking!!!! And I don't want ANYONE here to think that I am ashamed of my weirdness! I am proud of this! You won't know what to think of me!

As far as a brunette being dominate...I would like to see a brunette try to dominate a red-head! Now that is a show I would pay to see!

....Unless it is you, EEK...in that case, I won't even try....you can just have me now!

I think that EEK gave a much more descriptive explanation than my limited vocabulary is capable of. But I Tried nonetheless.......

No, you did well Constantlylearning....! You brought up a good point!

.....but I still want to hear EEK state her case.... !

EEK...I'm all ears...;)

You are too kind...........I think I will pay attention and listen to
what she has to expand on as well.........

You really do need to listen to EEK. She's like the Aphrodite of this site (in my opinion)..she is well experienced and very wise.....
BUT....
I want to know specifically what EEK thinks about red-heads!!!!!

Good advice....I will do just that.......oh you put a cavaet at the end...
"the but........I WANT TO KNOW".

Well sort of on topic... my mom and all of her side of the family have brown eyes.
My dad's side.. I think they all have blues eyes just about except for him and me.. who have green eyes.
My mom was sure I would have her brown eyes.. lol.
I wear contacts anyhow... so I wear the green enhancer ones.
At LEAST once a week I get complimented on my eyes.
Like Dawn said... people ask.. is that your real eye color?
I have big eyes... and the green is like GREEN!!!! lol
I just say.. yeah it's my eye color :)
I have brown hair but I dye it red.... does that count? :) lol

Ok, I am going to cast by vote that chemical enhancement (hair color)
and cosmetic assets (colored contacts) do NOT count. Nice try
though........Of course, this is simply ONE vote.

Haha. Demonbuttercup...it counts in a way! I guess you (voluntarily) experienced the same questions every day. I wish I could change my eye color...but they are too dark...my eye doctor said there would be no natural-looking contactS for me. Either way...yes...demonbuttercup...you are still a freak, but not a natural freak!

Alright, that begs the eternal question. What is the definition of a
"freak" as it relates to the content of this thread??

I'm a natural blonde (but my hair is currently dyed black/blue), I definately used to get so much more attention when I was blonde.

I get attention for my hair colour now, but thats because its a wierd colour lol.

But I really do think that blondes are more noticed than brunettes, though I think that pretty red heads are also high on the list of mail preference.

Yes I have heard all about how red-heads are fiery-tempered, blondes are not mental giants and brunettes make good little housewives but really - NONE of it is true.

You genetics are only half of the story. Everything from prenatal nuitrition to childhood education up to age 6 will have the effect of molding those genetic predispositions. After age 6 there are further refinements but the bedrock is already in place.

As an example: one's genes could say "grow to 6'6" in height" but if you are not fed properly as an infant and then as a child, you will not attain that 6'6".

Another example (for which I may receive 'heat') if a male is not fed adequate amounts of protein, by age 14 they will lose the ability to do mathematics beyond the basic 1,2,3...; counting skills. By age 16 they will be apathetic. One can be mentally stunted as well as physically stunted by inadequate nuitrition.

The final piece fo the puzzle lies in how you were raised. Humans train their children by rewarding certain behaviors and punishing others. Humans also tend to believe what they're told if it is told to them enough beginning in childhood. Which is explains why my husband keeps badgering me to eat my veges since he was told that as a child. But it also applies to sex - "be a good girl and say no" - do you see?

So if they laughed and thought you were cute when you lost your temper as a red-headed child - you'll tend to believe that that's ok and how you were meant to be - because you had red hair.

EEK, you are indeed well versed on an array of subjects. Terrific insight.
Does that necessarily equate to the old saying that one is a "product of
their environment" in many respects?

The funny thing is, I don't have the typical "raging" temper of a red-head. I'm actually quite soft spoken and easy going.
I just posed the question about hair color out of curiosity. I do not believe any of those stereotypes out there. I just wondered what the majority thought. However, I do find it interesting that there has been proof of some traits associated with hair color...( such as the pain medication example that I gave earlier).
Personally, I find brunettes and fellow red-heads the most attractive. I guess I see too many UNNATURAL blondes (at least where I live). There is something about a woman that has fiery red hair or deep auburn locks that just makes me look twice.... :0)

Has the thread gone a little further than you initially expected??

YES...and NO.........the thread has expanded to include individual thoughts and has consequently developed an idea(s) to discuss. In a way, this is exactly what I was hoping for. I just wanted people to start TALKING about this. Nothing more, nothing less.

Good, I am glad you were able to provoke some indepth thought on a
subject that was obvioulsy of interest to you. The thread on the
Skinny/Curvey kinda took a nose dive...........I wonder why?

You think "skinny vrs. curvy" took a nose dive? I think it was a very enlightening and exposing thread. I have found the contents of that thread to be very insightful and interesting.
I like to pose general questions. Sometimes, I have major events go on in my life that I need a second opinion on...in that case I will potentially illustrate the issue here...other times, I am just curious!
I think both threads have proved to contribute many different views and opinions...which is EXACTLY what I wanted! SO, I consider both to be a complete success!

No no, you misunderstood or perhaps I did not articulate what I meant
very well. I was merely commenting that there has been no response
in quite awhile and thought perhaps the thread had come to STOP.
I thought that the thread was very interesting to say the least. I
apologize for not explaining myself better.

No need to apologize...I am just happy people did not brush the thread off as "redundant" on an age-old question and actually offered their opinion. I think society today has some major issue with projecting an unrealistic human, be it male or female....and I am sick of seeing people beat themselves up for not being able to accomplish that ideal. Even if it is in a small, seemingly insignificant, way...I want to challenge people out there and make them think about what is TRULY attractive.
That’s all.
...and again, you do not need to apologize for what you feel. Never let anyone tell you otherwise.

...and another thought as to why "skinny vrs. curvy" began to slow down...I think this is a topic that has been reviewed and discussed a gazillion times over. Quite frankly....people are probably tired of hearing about it and responding to it. Lets be honest....it's safe to say that WE ALL KNOW there is a current problem in the fashion industry with regards to 0 size models. I think, now that we have all confirmed that this is indeed an issue, we need to start demanding women are represented more accurately....but that is another thread altogether... :0)

Well, you are a good thread starter.............

Off topic.........isn't everyone unique in their own way?

Absolutely!!! That is what makes the world-go-round! I love brunettes, blondes, red-heads...and anything in-between! I couldn't imagine the world without so many lovely choices...in terms of ladies, of course....

Great outlook. But you qualify your admoration to only ladies.
