So while it is possible, it is highly improbable - so swallowing is unlikely to cause any transmission. Of course once semen reaches the stomach it dies. The hydrochloric acid in the stomach is more than strong enough to kill HIV and if it weren't for the lining, it would eat through the stomach itself - ulcers.

Personally, before becoming that intimate with a person I do not have a history on and a negative test result for STDs, I wouldn't be having oral. I also believe oral with a condom is pointless. Why bother.

Latex is not the only material these things are made of. Plastic and natural materials are also available. As for oral--pointless. Shucks, it is worse than making love to a man wearing nothing but his socks.

Have to admit that I am not as "wise" as the good Doc in terms of waiting (or of dancing, for that matter! :D ) - I tend to rely more on personal assessment of my partner's habits to decide whether I should or not "offer" oral to her, but definitely agree with him that oral with condom feels more like a massage with full winter outfit on ... useless, aside from the added intimacy of the act. And there's nothing to do about it really. My preferred safe-sex alternative providing a similar (though not quite...) type of closeness is mutual fingering/masturbation.

Receiving oral with a condom is quite nice. No, it's not as nice as without one, but it's right up there. If a woman requires a condom, I can accept that. I mean, I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak.

By the same token, intercourse without a condom is a bit nicer than with one ... but I'm not so crazy that I'd tell people that they should be running around having unprotected sex or none at all!

And yes ... I have been intimate with women who did not bring me a lab report dated within the preceding 2 days.

As far as the other questions:
- I can't think of anything that should really be done differently, technique-wise.
- I'm not a font of wisdom on the taste either, since my sole experience has been on the receiving end. Are you sure that it's the taste of the latex that's bugging you? Many condoms are packaged with a lubricant or spermicide on them, which might not be real tasty.

An off-the-cuff suggestion: flavored lube. Could come in handy for other stuff as well. For that matter, I suppose you could just bring a jar of your favorite jam or other condiment. If you want to be really wacky, you might try a nice spicy mustard and some sauerkraut. Okay ... strike that last idea ....

A little more on the same point: in addition to latex, I believe condoms are also made of polyurethane. Don't know what that tastes like, but then again I don't really know what latex condoms taste like. In my experirence, the main problem with polyurethane is that it isn't as stretchy as latex -- so they've got to be sized exactly right or else they're really difficult to put on (or, if you err the other way, they're prone to slip off). I suppose slipping off would be less of a problem if you're using them for oral sex, since the active partner is pretty much right there on top of the problem. So you could get a big size and feel confident it'll work.

As mentioned, some condoms are also made of natural materials (aren't they something disgusting like sheep intestines?), but - if the purpose of the condom is STD protection - my understanding is that the natural ones are lacking in that department.

Oral with a condom on is really crap. Get that condom off & suck him dry.

While it may be unlikely to get AIDs through unprotected blowjobs (though NOT impossible) you can certainly get other STDs easily.

Use protection! Yes, condoms do not taste very good. I concede this. There are ways to mask the flavor such as:
flavored condoms
flavored lubes
adding foods/condiments such as: chocolate body spread, whip cream

I don't really enjoy receiving blow jobs while wearing a condom. There's not enough stimulation.
