Girlfriend has endometriosis

Ok, so I never realized just how prominent this condition is (so far several friends and a family member), until me and my girlfriend found out she has endometriosis (after several er visits and a laprascopy) anyways, there are several options for treatment, but she does want to have kids one day (so full hystorectomy is bye bye) and birth control is not an option because she has seizures and the doctors can't seem to find an agreeable one. So late one night while measuring my bodyfat, I started thinking that if she manage to get to a low enough bodyfat percentage her periods would stop. Since she seems to only have a hard time when her peiods start, maybe this would help the pain.

So I talked to a friend of mine who is a fitness model and she is very healthy according to the doctors but hasn't had a period for a long time. (Forget the actual amount) anyways I was curious if any of the resident md's could shine some light on this issure, and tell me if this seems like a feesable solution to managing her pain and such. I know that estrogen controls bone density, and that it also works with periods, so I am fairly sure there is a risk for osteoporisis or something of the like but again I would like some members help.

well i cant help u but what i cant tell u is u should really talk to a doctor who really understand the situation , n if u love her you both will take this risk no matter what all i can be is supportable :d n ooh that's right bears can

Stopping her periods through diet on top of what she is already experiencing is not a good idea. This condition can be something a woman lives with quite well or it can become life threatening. The doctors treating her can shed light on what is going on and what alternatives there are. I can assure you that reducing body fat to the point of amennorhea will not be on the list.

The last woman I referred for end0- was told flat out that she must have a hysterectomy or live a very painful life. I follow other patients who have children and have lived with it for some years. Without exam, no estimate can be made for your girlfriend.

I know of a primate lab in which no female employees are allowed near the animals whilst on period. The monkeys really react.

Ok thanks brandye I figured it was a hair brained scheme lol. Do you have any advice for managing the pain? I mean I know they say exercise but what are we talking? A light jog? Walking around the block? Or something else?

Get the guidance from the treating physician. As a baseline, a woman her age should have thirty minutes or more of aerobic exercise each day. At age 20, that would equate to a heart rate about 160.

My late wife suffered with painful Endometriosis for several years in the early 1980s. She had 2 surgeries, and the second one finally got rid of the pain--they basically cauterized all of the endometrial masses in her pelvic cavity with a laser, and she was pain-free pretty much from that day onward. However, the years of having it and the treatments left her unable to have children, even though she had a regular period and both ovaries intact. We adopted 2 wonderful, bright, beautiful kids, now 27 and 20. Endometriosis can be a very painful and damaging condition--get treated now!
