Hey i was told my the gum clinic that i got genital herpes, my bf didnt even know he had it, so has gone off to be tested.
does anyone here have it that could give me some advice????
i mean with things like how does it change your sex life? i dont fancy going through the pain all over again that i have already been through. i know that it can come back time and tme again, and the first time is always the worst. is there something i could do to prevent it. less oral etc?
any advice would be greatfull
love
emma

Here is some info posted by Brandye (Resident Doctor) on the site.

You can try to reduce outbreaks by keeping in good health & if in a relationship there are meds such as Valtrex. But there is a high correlation of people which become infected from a partner while NO outbreak is present. Obviously no sex during an outbreak & condoms are now a must. Additionally this is something which you must disclose to all future partners prior to sex of any type. Read through the link and she also gives another site to look in to!
Meds such as Valtrex are used also during an acute outbreak...
I personally dont have it, but I do have an aunt (and her daughter due to birth) who has it. As far as preventing outbreaks, pretty much take the meds that the doctors prescribe, use protection for pretty much all sexual activities, especially oral. Last thing you want is to have genital and oral herpes right? So use condoms or a dental dam for oral.
One question though, how did you contract it? through intercourse or oral sex? cuz if it is from you recieving oral, be sure not to kiss your bf when he is experiencing an outbreak, or if he believes one is coming for that matter.
I have a friend who has it and she states that stress is a huge factor in bringing on an outbreak. So, reduce stress as much as possible.
i got it from him giving me oral, it came on a few days later
he also hasnt had an outbreak!!! he didnt know he had it even though he got tested every 6 months it didnt show up in his results.
So what you are saying is Type I--oral and not genital Type II herpes?
Well what she is saying is that he gave it to through oral...so Im guessing it would be Type I
Rocker your boyfriend could have very easily contracted it after one of the sti tests. Have you been with him since his last STI test? because it could mean that you gave it to him, and he gave it back to you, well your genitals at least.
HSV I is a cold sore not nearly as serious as type II. Do the research and hopefully Brandye hops back in soon on this one!
i wasnt told what type it was!!!
i havent had sex with him since... and he went for his test last week 3 weeks after i got it.
when i was being tested the doctor told me i contracted through oral sex with my bf. before meeting my current bf i have only been with one other guy and we were with each other for 2 years and we were both virgins before we meet each other, so i know i didnt get it from my ex.
Emma
well that isnt neccessarily true...you and your ex could have been virgins but he could have still had it, and gave it to you...if you lost your virginity with him, because virginity doesnt mean you havent experimented with oral

Go back to where you were checked and find out more information; therefore, you will be more informed. It's tough for us here to do a "guess".
