So I'm taking a Human Sexuality class

I'm finishing my BA in Sociology, and am taking a Human Sexuality course which is specific to that major.

I've just been reading that anal and oral were illegal in 10 US states until 2003, when a US Supreme Court decision ruled that "the constitutional right to privacy protects private sexual contact between consenting adults" (Crooks and Baur 2011, p. 9).

Hello?! Precedent for telling all the anti-gay-marriage folks to STFU, anyone?

Crooks, R. & Baur, K. (2011). Our sexuality (11th ed.). Belmont, CA: Wadsworth

(And yes, I'm in school mode so I'm citing stuff thoroughly LOL)

Fine. Perhaps you should start with Kenya where a group of US Senators and Congressmen encouraged, and then discouraged, a death penalty for homosexual behaviour. It is not on the books but often enforced nonetheless.

If you think pushing a sociology text into the face of some religious zealot will make a difference, have at it.

Yeah, unfortunately for me, my liberalist zeal for "live and let live" doesn't speak nearly as loudly as the fundamentalist zeal for "my interpretation is the only one God likes". And that's probably partly because my tactic would be to push it into their face instead of beating them about the head with it, like they do.

But I never give up hope. Maybe that makes me naive, or too idealistic for my own good, but I don't much care. As long as there's still one single person who refuses to give up hope, that hope has the chance to spread.

Indeed it was, and a cheerleader and quarterback from my high school were issued a warning citation for it. Since they were minors, it was sent to their parents.

Irrelevant.

The point to press is anti-gay legislation deprives homosexuals of their rights under The Constitution. Homosexuals remain Unequal before the Law because these "religious" people feel this emotional need to punish them.

The thing is remove the sexual morality issue and replace it with BEING FAIR.

Fun fact to add, as it made me think of this thread immediately. The reference may be odd, but I'll get there I'm reading a book on babies' development, co-author is the director of the Baby Research Center in Nijmegen, the Netherlands*. Of many, it also describes an experiment which attempts to identify whether a child can discriminate between him/herself and the other person and think from the others' point of view**:

An adult is put in front of 14 month and 18 month old children. He eats a cookie and says "Yuk, this is disgusting!" along with a yuk-expression on his face. He eats a piece of broccoli and says "hmmmm, yummy, absolutely delicious!" displaying a yummy-expression on his face. They then ask the children to offer him either a piece of brocoli or a cookie. 14 month old children will offer the cookie (allegedly: because they think with their own preference), 18 month old children will offer the broccoli (allegedly: because they understand what makes them happy, isn't necessarily so for others). There is off course more research available identifying this ability and the age is not determined yet.

It makes me wonder; if we're able to see what one person "likes" and "wants" does not need to be the same as what we "like" and "want" at such a young age.... And those who can't even speak are able to offer it to the other person to make him happy.... Makes me wonder what went wrong when people try to impose their opinion on others so vigorously, that they will go as far as calling homosexuals "sick" and therefor denying their existence and trying to deny them their happiness...

Especially for you Int (and because I love reference too )

arrogance simply put and also fear. these people call themselves God fearing Christians so anything that resembles sodom and gomorrah they are against. to them they mean well but we are giving choices to do what we want and they are afraid of what will happen when society makes the unholy choices.

They feel that God will blame them for what they permit others to do that are against God's rules. But believing this is making God in man's image and that's impious blasphemy. As if God would be so unjust!

Wink Anal Illegal In Nevada

Anal still illegal here in Nevada. People who frequent our legal brothels in this state, outside of Clark County, often are disappointed to learn they can't do anal with their trick because sodomy is illegal.

They might be able to enforce this inside the brothels, but I'd love to see them try to enforce it anywhere else.
