St. Valentine's Day

Many people have the erroneous idea that St. Valentine's Day is just a "Hallmark" holiday - invented by card companies etc. Some single people use this opportunity to wail and rebel against their single status and/or the idea that people should be in couples.

WRONG!

However you choose to celebrate February 14th, this is the day when CUTTING LOOSE is glorified!

Men - GO FOR IT! Sweep her off her feet! Be big, baad, and bold and forget being anything but UTTERLY MALE. Laugh and be joyously sexual without remorse, halt or hindrance for NOW is your chance!

Ladies - wear that red dress! Let your Inner Tigress come out and Play! Ah hah! You have him where you want him now! Right there in your evil clutches! (wink!) Show him and revel your power!

For, if nothing else, this is the day that celebrates that life-force within us which leads us into the arms of our lovers.

Sex! Romance! Love!

That glorious conflagration of souls joyously reaffirming life itself!

THAT is what St. Valentine's Day is celebrating!

Ladies and Gentlemen: START YOUR ENGINES!

YES YES YES. But our wedding anniversary is Feb 18th so St. Valentine really pales in comparison not to mention cumparison. Valentine's Day is another wonderful cover up of a pagan holiday, Lupercalia in this case, which involved naked men whipping women... so anyway you sort of know where my tastes run I hope you and everyone here had a Happy Valentine EvilEvilKitten.

I thought Lupercalia was celebrated in ancient Rome on February 15th... O WTH, close enough Related to Romus and Remulus; the mythical founders of Rome, as babies they were suckled by a she-wolf. It's even more so related to Faunus; the horned god of the woods and male fertility. And Fauna; his female counterpart as symbol for female fertility. Faunus was called "Lupercus" in Latin (he who wards off the wolf). Mostly he is known as Pan. Though he supposedly protected the goats and sheep, he was known for feasting his desires on maiden shepherdesses and sexually hunting nymphs. Read on at: Who is Faunus?

Part of the fertility rites was for priests and young naked men to sacrifice goats in the she-wolf-cave, dress up in their wool, mix blood with milk, feast of the flesh and cut the skin to belts. Roaming the streets like a good Pan would. The whipping was supposed to bring fertility to whoever was struck.

Many ancient festivities were translated to Christian holidays. Helas a lot was destroyed in the battle against it. But apparently; you can not stop the people from celebrating. People need to be able to cut loose once in a while! It is vital for our well-being

Yes Lupercalia was Feb. 15th. A lot disguising of pagan holidays was done on a close enough basis.

But of course! The early Christians were jealous - wailing "we have nothing to celebrate!" whilst all around them the pagans were partying.
