What irks me is that so many men seem unable to use a urinal properly; this based on the amount of urine on public restroom floors right in front of the urinals.

When I was a teenanger, I never knew that some people left the seat raised up. I actually thought that this debate was always about the solid lid and that somehow, women hated to see the water in the toilet for some reason. I guess this is because my family is from another culture that never leaves the seat up?? I believed this until years later when I moved out of my parents house and other guys renting in the same place were leaving the seat up.

As for public restrooms, I think that is due to drunks coming from the bar...

I don't care if he leaves the lid or seat up or down. Just please don't wee with the seat down and get the seat sprayed. Nothing worse than sitting down on someone else's tinkle.

The reason you keep the seat and the lid down varies from one house to the next but the two most common reasons are:

1. to stop odors from getting out.
2. to keep pets from drinking out of it.

If the man is a bachelor and if he's like most bachelors of my acquaintance - PLEASE keep the lid and the seat down: your toilet's not clean - need I say more?

And discourages, notice I did not say stops, small children from playing in the water. Also keeps objects from accidentally falling or being placed in the bowl.
