I do hope Santa was nice to everyone.

I really do hope you survived "Black Friday". I did. I avoided two popular malls in the Sacramento area and went to a third in order to get some bargains at J.C. Penny's department store. The items I purchased were 70% off and this is not the result of them going out of business like a few other major chains. I saved a ton of money, yesterday, on some household items we wanted.

Too cute with the savings; I even made a purchase of a new computer secondary to two crashing...a great time to buy!

I'm a big fan of cyber monday. The vast majority of the time I can find much better deals online, but around the holidays the local stores occasionally have 5-10 items that are outstanding. I received one of my dream presents I wasn't expecting at all due to one of those local deals and now have a brand new 27in monitor for my home office. It's so much easier on the eyes during the long days.

Congratulations on being the recipient of a BIG screen monitor! I know how they make viewing so much more enjoyable. I used to have a 72" projection TV and that was great in a large living room. What with the nation going all digital in a few weeks, I'm conflicted between keeping the 32" model we now have or going to a large(r) DLP projector sometime after taxes.

We have just about decided to hold off on this purchase because the satellite service automatically converts so we do not need a converter box--and, because there is not enough programming available that will benefit spending the money for the new wide-aspect ratio screens. We do not purchase/rent movies enough to justify the cost right now, either. Bottom line: Even though the screen is small by comparison, I much prefer a full size display instead of buying a new wide format TV and having the letter box effect. What have we gained?

I love the monitor because I can fit 2 full 8x11 pages on the screen when writing/reading papers, and also because I can run simulation software with the cmd prompt, sim output, and a full spec sheet for references on the same screen.

As for the new TV's, I don't watch TV often(no time) but had I the money, a 32in+ LCD or DLP combined with a Blu-Ray player is absolutely amazing for movies or programming such as Step Into Liquid, Planet Earth, or The Living Sea. Nature IMAX films converted to Blu-Ray really help me relax and drift away when it's time for a break. Pioneer Kuro plasma's are incredible, and in a few years, OLED's the thickness of a manila folder should be affordable.
