Ducy is just really nice
Am I being overprotective/paranoid?

So I am having a party next friday. There will be movies, food, music and "beverages". I had it planned out, and the only rule about coming was that you turn in your keys at the door and get them the next morning, whether you do or do NOT partake in said "beverages".

I do this cuz I dont want anything to happen to any of the guests, even if you didnt drink, I didnt want the sober one to take a bunch of people out for a late night food run, getting pulled over and people getting arrested for being intoxicated and underage.

But of course I had a few people complain and tell me I was being stupid for making the rules so strict, and that if you dont drink you should be able to leave.

So am I really in the wrong, and just chill out a bit more. I have had a few close people in my life involved in drinking and driving (one killed by a drunk driver) so I am a bit paranoid but yea Just wanted to get some opinions.

This sounds very responsible to me.

It is your party, you set the rules.

If you are dealing with a bunch of teens and people under 21, consider that they act irresponsibly a lot of the time and fall prey to a bunch of peer pressure.

I don't think so......

yet only the spirit can dance!

Dancing is the fastest way to get
a girl alone and into your arms in public.

The Tango smolders and burns. It ignites the
heart, the soul, and yes, the libido.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass,
it's about learning how to Dance in the Rain!

Dance as if nobody is watching.

That is what I am afraid of...like a sober person deciding to take a few drunks on a del taco run and then them doing something dumb, and getting rolled for being drunk and underaged

1-What is your parents take on this...do not do without their permission. They are liable.

2-If alcohol is served collect the keys & watch everyone...watch for over board drinking & head counts. No need for a trip to the ER for alcohol poisoning. Be certain your parents are monitoring who is drinking what & doing what to whom.

3-All parents need to know their kids are going & the terms...

BTW: HIDDING????

If my kids did this, I'd eviscerate them!

Beverages for underage kids should be SODA or what is known as "virgin" - mixed drinks sans only the alcohol.

They do make beer and wine without alcohol btw, and you can serve those instead.

Your rules are fine. Just go one step further and also control the presence of alcohol at your party.

The amount of alcohol is under control. This is not going to be some full blown rave with enough alcohol to poison a country. Just a few beers, and some tequila for margaritas (all my female friends love frozen margaritas) Honestly, if anyone gets drunk, they either were drinking before hand, or they have an extremely extremely low tolerance.

And yes my parents do know. They are not supplying the alcohol, and will not be in town for the night so they said whatever I do, they are "unaware" of. They do know that I drink when I go out to other peoples houses as well. The only thing they get angry at (or would get angry if I ever did) is drinking and driving home.

I am afraid that your parents' actual physical presence is immaterial to the law. They are responsible regardless and can be brought up on charges of providing alcohol to minors - even your guests' parents can call the police. Tell me - are you SURE you want to do this?

Virgin frozen margaritas and un-alcohlic beer seems your best choice. No need to say anything - just make sure the music's so good no one notices or cares.

smallestoftheclan is on a distinguished road
Providing alcohol to a minor is a crime, and if something happens to someone underage on your parents property is going to be their problem, home not home, knowing or "not knowing".
If you allow a minor to drink while they are at your parents home and something happens there or even after they leave your parents home you can bet you and your parents will be held accountable.
Along with the keys, get a letter from their parents stating that they are aware that there will be alcohol at the party they are attending. As for taking the keys, how many sets of keys to your car do you have? I have 3, so if you take one I still have 2 so if I disappear don't be surprised. You need to lock those cars up. Behind a fence that has a gate that can be closed and locked shut til you are ready for it to be opened.
Overall bad idea.......
