Egypt, ever been?

I will be in Cairo for a few days and if I am lucky will have a day off. If anyone here has ever been there I would welcome suggestions on things to do and see on limited time,besides the obvious and any social or cultural customs that westerners should be careful of.

Stick with the tourist stuff. You do not want to strike out on your own until you have had a few weeks to learn your way around. There is a vibrant ex-pat scene through whom you can find local points of interest.

I've never been but have a good trip, be safe, and have fun!

When I looked into going I was told to stay close to the main tourist areas...no outings/adventures on your own...the negative descriptions given to me remind me of traveling to Columbia.

I was told though; stay where you DO belong you will be okay.

Thanks for the suggestions Brandye and Sera. I have been to some strange cities and strange countries in my life. This will be my first trip to the middle east in January.
