Things do not seem as bad currently as once anticipated......I know that is
relative especially if you are not there in the present. Boy, I don't like those
big storms. And I really want to go to NO and have a benign at Cafe Du Monde'.

My thoughts are there as well. From what I saw on the news the last few days it seemed like they were taking no chances with this one, especially after Katrina. I was also thrilled when I saw that they actually had put an evacuation plan into place, and were using it, for pets. A big reason so many stayed home last time.

The next few days will tell the degree & how much the government alone will respond. I do know some volunteer teams are already lending a helping hand on the outskirts. Stocking blankets, medical supplies, out of warehouses. Other's are on call.

The HSUS is really good at helping the pets which need to be rescued.

Hopefully the storm will downgrade and the rainfall will not be as substantial & the following storm diverts or looses force. It's is about 3 years and a few days apart from Katrina.

I hope it does dwindle and fizzle out...

Found this on cbsnews.com

FEMA's Post-Storm Locator System

A new Federal Emergency Management Agency locator system has been set up to help people displaced by Hurricane Gustav get in touch with family members.

People who sign up with the National Emergency Family Registry Locator can let up to seven people access their information, including ways to contact them.

A special section is set aside specifically for missing children too.

It's a response to the chaos that reigned in 2005, when an estimated 18,000 people were reported lost immediately after hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma slammed into the Gulf Coast and Florida.

People can sign up at FEMA's Web site, FEMA.gov, or by calling toll-free at (800) 588-9822.
