Best childhood memory
I have many but I remember a trip to Toronto to visit family and we went to the ex. It's like the state fair I guess. We were in the stadium, yes where the Blue Jays once played, and they were doing stunts with cars. This one stunt the car goes up on the two driver side wheels and the driver falls out. The pit crew runs over and over the loud speaker it's announced that a beautiful woman had distracted this man and they brought this man (actually a life size very human looking dummy) over and put him on my mothers lap.
All of a sudden there she was up on the screen, my mom and this man. My younger brother and I were actually in the seats right behind her and were scolded by a woman because we jumped up to look over our mom's shoulder we were 6 and 7, this was exciting. I don't know if the woman was more upset that her son couldn't see or if she couldn't. The look on my mom's face, 40 years later, makes me smile. |

My best childhood memory is when we emigrated from England to Australia. We spent 3.5 weeks on board ship, sailed through the Mediterranean, Suez Canal and Red Sea and across the Indian Ocean, with stopoffs at Gibralter, Naples, Aden, Colombo before arriving in Australia. It was a great adventure for a 7 year old.

How cool for you Cyclefreak. My mom was only 3 when she moved, with her family, from Scotland to Canada. So she didn't remember anything about the ship. I have her boarding card, it's the only one that our family has of the 5, in one of my family photo albums. She crossed with her mom 32, brother 9 and sister 6. Her dad crossed earlier.

I have some colour slides that my father took during the trip (I wish he'd taken more). There was a fair bit of dirt and grime on them, and the colour has faded after 45 years, but I have managed to clean them up a bit, scan them, and do a bit of colour and exposure correction digitally. The results are not perfect, but are reasonably satisfactory. It just gives me a digital backup in case anything should happen to the originals.
