I will see if I can get you a small list. As far as live Jazz music is concerned
Beale St in Memphis is wonderful. We use to frequent many of the Jazz
clubs in New Orleans as well not sure how things are since the storm but I
bet things are still pretty good. That is trip I need to take soon.

The Sacramento Jazz Jubiee

http://www.sacjazz.org/jubilee.html

and the Traditional Jazz Society

http://www.sacjazz.org/links.html

are two of Sacramento's big musical events. The Jubilee is an annual event that takes over the entire city with bands playing all over. Musicians trek in from all over the world to perform during the long Memorial Day weekend.

The Traditional Jazz Society is comprised of local bands and they perform regularly throughout the year at one place or another.

Have a look. Downloads are available and I believe some have CDs available.

As for what group(s) to suggest, that is simply a matter of personal preference.

Good Luck!

I'm sorry, for that post above I made, it does sound a bit unhelpful doesn't it. Thanks CL and Doc for giving more specific answers. It does depend on what you are looking for though, are you looking for that deep voice or the sounds of a sax both of which can be very moving.

Hi,
Give this site a try:
I do not know anything about the service, the information was passed along by a member of our computer club. (I suppose being a high-end audio guru and music lover, I should check this out.)

Check out http://pandora.com/

Pandora is an automated music recommendation and Internet radio service created by the Music Genome Project. Users enter a song or artist that they enjoy, and the service responds by playing selections that are musically similar. Users provide feedback on the individual song choices — approval or disapproval — which Pandora takes into account for future selections. Just tell them one of your favorite songs or artists and they'll launch a streaming station to explore that part of the musical universe.

Pandora radio is the personalized internet radio service that helps you find new music based on your old and current favorites. Create custom web radio ...

Pandora is a music discovery service designed to help you enjoy music you already know, and to help you discover new music you'll love.

It's powered by the most comprehensive analysis of music ever undertaken, the Music Genome Project: a crazy project started back in early 2000 to capture the complex musical DNA of songs using a large team of highly-trained musicians.

Just tell them one of your favorite songs or artists and they'll launch a streaming station to explore that part of the musical universe.

You can listen to Pandora on the Web, Pandora on the Go, or Pandora in the Home.
