They're Glofish, new genetically man-made fish. Maybe that's exactly what it is! Thank you.

Man-made fish? That's AWESOME!

And my theory on why your fish are fighting is just so you can have an excuse to make Beatles jokes. Or it could be the tank thing...

Oh yea, I'm so makin this up!!

Well I noticed that they're only pickin on one of the fish (one of the guppies). I feel awful, almost all his fins are missing from where the other two fish are biting them off... Will they grow back?

I was just kidding with you, Gorgeous.

I have no idea if the fins will grow back or not. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. According to wikipedia, "fin-nipping" is a pretty common behaviour with guppies, so it might not be that big of a deal...

Still, I'd suggest putting fish that don't get along in seperate tanks. (DISCLAIMER: I am not currently a marine biologist and have no idea what I'm talking about.)

Any advice helps because I'm as clueless as they come when it's about fish...

Thanks for researching the "fin-nipping" Oedi.. ha

That's probably what I'll end up doing. My little sister is jealous that I have fish and she doesn't so maybe I'll give her one or two... I really love the Glofish though! Man playing God? Who cares? It's cool!

I would go to an aquarium forums such as aquariumpros.com to get info on fish. I know a fair amount about fish, but there are so many other issues aside from whether or not the fish was even healthy to begin with - tank size, water treatments and temperature, filter, etc. Anyway, check it out if you want happy fish. Never trust a box or a pet store salesperson when it comes to your fish. They usually are completely wrong and the only way to get good information is to do a lot of research.

Fin nipping is common and the fins can grow back if the nipping stops and all the fins aren't gone. If that happens, poor fishy is going to be unable to swim and will die. If you don't have enough cover (plants, etc) fish will tend to be territorial, especially in small tanks. You could try to add more cover for the fish to hide in and make their own homes in.

BTW, if the GloFish you have are the neon fish, and "man made," they are going to die. Not only are they screwed because of the ink injection to their spine, the ink itself often makes them sick. They are lucky to live past 3 weeks. Injected fish live a very sad and cruel life because of how they come to be. I suggest not buying them ever again and stick to Tetras if you want bright freshwater fish. Neons and Glolites are wonderful tetras that like to school with 7 or more fish.

Also, if you don't have at least a 10 gallon tank, the fish you have are much more prone to diseases and sudden death for many, many factors. I hope I'm not coming across as being harsh or anything, I just get really upset about how so many fish are unintentionally killed because of their well intentioned owners.
