Windows Vista is awful; I dumped it off the computer & went back to XP. I had a similar experience with having to buy a computer ASAP from Bestbuy. Will never do that again...rather purchase one which came off a lease but unfortunately had to finish a thesis! Time was of the essence; luckily I was able to get the paper uploaded to a server fast!

I've tried everything I can think of and still can't network my old xp pc with my newer vista and my PS3. I am a gadget nut though so I do like that on the side.

I don't understand, what are the problems with pcs? I've never had a Dell (I'm an hp type of chick). My mom has a new Dell, windows vista does suck! But besides that, what's so wrong about pc's that still operate on windows xp. Personally, I've never experienced any problems, but even so I'm thinking about purchasing a Mac.

Honestly most PCs are good enough for the job nowadays. I used to build my own and all that crap, but I just buy a Dell now. You can't customise or upgrade them in the same way, but unless you are playing cutting edge games or video editing you don't need to anymore. Yeah they come with Vista, but it runs fine on new systems and it's not THAT bad, it's just different.
Macs are great for complete computer newbies, but you do pay a premium over the same performance as a PC (but don't they look pretty!)

Thresher; I had the same issue; I could not get the two computers (I only use laptops) one w/Vista & other with XP Pro to sync for network. Therefore, I took it in and had the Vista stripped out and XP put on it. Now, no big issue. Vista is a PIA and it takes too long on any of the computers to boot up. Therefore, I leave one run all the time. Only shut off when I go out or to bed. Makes it easier to run past and see what's new while I am working on something else. Gadgets? Ughhhh. I'll send you my IPOD before I throw it out the door!

I have both Mac and PC but frankly I like the PC better . . . . Macs are "prettier" but I find it easier to do what I want with the PC (messing around with DVD authoring and the like) . . . . more little techie software that's easily available that handles quirky stuff.
I don't have Vista though . . . . and from what everyone's saying I don't want it either. |

I use a big IBM NetVista workhorse with Vista OS and I can do EVERYTHING with it! I have used IBMs for years now and have never had a problem. When I bought to lesser machines for the kids - we always had problems. Since my son games, he had a special machine built for him but he used IBMs before at college and still has an IBM laptop running XP. He gave his dad his old IBM cpu with XP on it to use and now dad's problems with his machine have stopped as well. I swear - you cannot kill IBM cpus with a meat axe! They just keep going and going and going...LOL Yes, we're all networked togethor, ty.

Any Bond fans? There's a "villain" in "Tomorrow Never Dies" that runs his own Media Corp. He knowingly allowed his company to release software even with bugs...forcing users to pay for upgrades later. Every time I have a problem with Vista, I think of that scene....
That's why Bill Gates lives in his computerized mansion with an army of robots....the guy has a badge he wears that alerts the room PC to adjust the temp/humidity/background music/lighting/even the frigging virtual picture gallery on the walls of each room he enters.
