Prom Tuxedo Or Suit

I'm really confused... I dont know wether to get a suit or a tuxedo for my prom. The tux i would be renting but the suit buying, I'd rather buy considering they are the same price. What is the difference between a tux and a suit? On the other hand the theme of the night is James Bond - 007 so a tux would be most appropriate. With the suit i'd be wearing a vest as well. Is tux just little bit more form fitting?

Tuxes = super formal kind of stuff. It's not like you want to get a mixture of puke, urine, errant alcohol and miscellaneous bodily fluids on a suit, but getting them rental tuxes is even less of a good idea.

Oh, come on, we all know how prom is.

P.S. My prom attire is going to have this on it: http://www.coloringbookland.com/newimages/car15.gif (contains swearing, NSFW)

Well, Adam, I think we all could have done without your contribution.

To buy or rent, that is the question. What is more important or beneficial overall? I understand the long term investment benefit of buying a nice suit; however, if you have the means, and, the affair is going to be formal with a lot of boys wearing them, then you probably should follow suit, pun if any intended. I agree that you should ask your date if it matters whether you wear a suit or a tux, keeping in mind she may be biased rather than practical.

If the suit has long term value to you and money is tight, then I opt for the suit giving your date an explanation for your choice. If you are worried that you will be the only one not wearing a tux, I will hazard a guess that others will be wearing suits.

The link, above, shows a selection of tuxedos and how they differ from a standard business suit. As you can see, they are much fancier.

Your girl's bra, alone, will cost as much as it is to rent a tux. Find a store that caters to musicians or waiters. They have relatively inexpensive tuxedoes.

i guess im lame, but i'd go for a suit

(but when i was in HS i wasn't into the prom thing... my friends convinced me to go like litterally 2 days before and you were supposed to buy tickets like months in advance but i was a gueek so the prinicipal was like sure we'll find room for you at a table... i went for a simple dress that my moms friend hand-hemmed the night before lol... my best friend (not a date) wore a suit ... some guys wore tux's but i think the suit looked good... and it'll be useful in the future... i dunno thinking back to my prom the more serious or successful guys wore suits, the jocks had tux's, not sure why... but i like the look of a suit better, perhaps its just personal opinion.. but that was like ten years ago (litterally i gratuated in june '96 waaaaaaaah) ...

the only lame part is that my friend and i ended up sharing a limo, they had a spare spot in it... my dress was green and his suit was red lol... not like we'd planned any of it it was all last minute..

if (or well, hopefully when lol) my bf and i get married, he'll likely wear a suit, and myself a very simple dress... im utilitarian lol... i dont like to waste cash on extravagant junk i wont reuse, i mean on the one hand u only live once, but i dont want to spend that life paying off junk i dont need

cheers and congrats,

fluffy
