It's been my dream profession for quite some time now but I'm not really sure how to go about becoming one. I've considered studying at the Kinsey Institute after I graduate from the university I'm attending right now but I'm not sure if I'm going to get what I want from there or if I will be able to attend. The problem with attending is that where I'm going to school now I'm probably going to build my own major and I don't know if I'll be able to combine that with what I would do at the Kinsey Institute. Sorry if this post has been a bit confusing. In general I'm just wondering if anyone has any information on locations that would be best for educating myself to become a sex therapist. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you want to be a clinical psychologist, you will need specific training and practice. I am not aware of the requirements in the US and understand that various states have different requirements. "Sex therapists" I have known have been psychologists, physicians or other health care professionals.

The best place to start would probably be with the psychology deparment of the school you are now attending. There is much more to sex therapy than, well, sex. So many sex problems are rooted in other physical or psychological issues. You do not train as a sex therapist until you are otherwise certified as some sort of therapist. Similarly, every clinical psychologist should not be considered a sex therapist. There is specialized training involved.
