fenugreek interfere with pill?

Just wondering if 610 mg of capsulized fenugreek daily would upset my pill in any way. From what's in it and what it's used for, it doesn't seem like that would be a huge probability but you never know!!!

Thank you --

Thanks a lot :)

Apparently, according to the bottle, you should take three of the pills (610 mg a day. . that's 1830 mg!!!) each day to help with blood sugar.

I'll be sticking to one :)

It does not appear to interfere w/BCP's say as St. John's Wart. As with any herbals since they are not FDA regulated, it's hard to really know. But I did not find anything contradicting the two & it's a precursor to hormone production.

thanks :)

I didn't figure it would; I just wanted to be on the safe side lol.

Too bad we do not have a naturopath or homeopath around. From the perspective of allopathic medicine there are a few things to consider. It should not be taken if pregnant or nursing. This is contradictory to some of what it is sold for. Some health food places sell it to increase lactation, but, as a doctor, I recommend against taking it while nursing. It is not good for the baby and creates false symptoms that are similar to very serious disease.

It does cause uterine contractions (usually gentle) but could cause miscarriage. Do not take it while pregnant.

It "potentiates" blood thinners or anti-clotting medication and should not be taken with warfarin, for instance, or even if you take much aspirin. It also inhibits the absorption of other drugs (or even food) and should not be taken within a few hours of any other medication.

So, no, it would not interfere with "the pill" and by causing flatulence may help prevent pregnancy! Actually in that low a dose, should not be much of a problem but if your bowels loosen up, you will know why.

That would still be less than a third of the maximum recommended so it would not be dangerous. It would reduce blood sugar (good for that) and likely cholesterol as well. BUT, if you take that much expect some intestinal symptoms.

If I take the 610 or if I take the 1830?

The 610 may be too little to do any good. The 1830 would do some good but cause some ïssues"in the beginning.

You may want to build up over a fortnight or so unless you are sleeping alone.

Ok.

thanks so much!! :D

Years back when herbal supplements became "hot" again and was integrated in to many MD's practice I found it helpful to take some courses in herbals and medicine for the reasons which Brandye stated. Various herbals were being taken by patients on anticoagulants; thus, increasing the bleeding times. Furthermore, many younger people were taking them for weight loss, blood sugar stabilization, body building, and sexual health. One guide I picked up was Prescription for Nutritional Healing [An a-z guide of supplements & treatment of symptoms]. This was such a great book, I bought an extra and kept it in the station by the PDR. Food for thought...
