Unfortunately their mothers are taught to believe that their daughters will not get to heaven with out having their clitorises cut off and their labia sewn together to ensure: chastity and virginity.

As for the invasion... that was never for the good of the people who live there. In fact: it was never meant for the good of people in this world.

Horrific indeed EEK! And it's such a shame that cultures and religions are being stained with the blood of such mutilation... :( I don't think any religion in this world was meant to hurt and yet: people are hurt so frequently in it's name.

Anyways, apparently some tribes in South Africa do not only mutilate the girls:

In 'normal' male circumcision they remove only the foreskin, as performed on for example Jewish boys. Apart from the question of this being traumatic at young age, it has no health risks, in fact it makes the area more easy to clean.These tribes remove more, performed by unskilled surgeons and combined with bad hygiene, it causes about 100 deaths a year in hospitals of the Eastern Cape province and a couple of hundreds being brought to the hospital mutilated. Now the number of victims seem to have all the suddenly peaked. Off course: probably more of them die but are not registered as victims of this malpractice...

Most stupid thing I've read (and they fail to mention it in this English publication): the province of KwaZulu-Natal has started a program to have 47.000 boys and 187.000 men of the Zulu-community circumcised, because this would protect against HIV... WHAT?! I just pray this will be done by 'real' doctors, but this is so for the wrong reasons...

Yes, they screwed up royally. South Africa is on a program to reduce HIV and circumcision (male) is a major part of it. At the risk of bringing back the jerks of a few years ago and their phony studies on circumcision, we women have much to gain through male circumcision. Both Jewish and Islamic cultures have fifty percent of the cervical cancer risk of other modern cultures.

STDs are also higher among uncircumcised males and their partners. A lot of crap can be carried around under the foreskin.
