New Board Software Upgrade (Jan 2006)
I love vBulletin, glad to see it running here. I had to reset my password before it would let me log in again.
I should also warn that other vBulletin boards often cause crashes in FireFox 1.5 probably because of a Javascript bug that should be fixed in the next FF release. Last edited by moose_hd; 01-14-2006 at 03:52 PM.. |

Upgraded?? I'm sorry to be negative, but ICK! Yes, I had to reset my password... which took 15 minutes because the system wouldn't mail me a new one! I think I've finally gotten it changed back to my original but since it didn't tell me, I guess I'll have to wait and see...
As for the board, itself... it loads slower than the old one and it's stretched so it doesn't fit on my screen without shifting back and forth. I suppose I'll get used to it but if you're asking if I'm happy.... in a word, NO.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions...
1) Resetting your password is a pain, I agree... but not a big price to pay... 2) Board is loading slower for you? I'm finding this one loads faster on my end... 3) The scrolling is because of your resolution... 1024 by 768 is becoming the default... Assyming both your computer and your eyes can handle it, right click on your dektop, go to properties, go to the tab on the far right, and change your resolution off of 800x600... On your end, you have to scroll now, but a much greater percentage of people now aren't looking at a page that is half empty... |

Actually, 800x600 is still the norm for computers. 1024x768 and greater is not. More experienced people tend to use 1024x768 or greater, but most people design for 800x600 because that is the default. Schools use it, libraries use it, businesses use it, a lot of net users use it. I even design that way on my sites and I have a 1024 screen. People shouldn't have to adjust their screens just to see something. That's ridiculous. There should be a way for the mod to adjust the tables to fit 800x600 screens.
And it does load slower for me as well. *shrug* And well, I said it in another thread, but I personally loathe vbulletin (ok really, I hate it) and that's why I didn't vote for it. I find the phpbb to be much better.

Trust me, the norm is still 800x600. It's the default browser size.
We took a poll recently (or really it was a stats thing) on another board I'm on. A board where people create sites solely for visitors. 800x600 won out by a long shot when it came to stats. But either way, it is not even remotely fair that someone should have to side scroll just to be able to view anything. All boards are adjustable in some way and it should be shrinked. Even I think it should be shrinked and I have a bigger screen size.

Hey,
For us, the choice on a wider resolution came down to these factors: 1) Industry leaders are starting to migrate over. 2) Trends, based on the reports we saw, show 1024x768 way ahead, and growing. 3) With a generally younger audience, we suspect that more of our users are on bigger resolutions then the averages. 4) The wider resolution gives us more room to work with... That being said, we do appreciate your concerns... Although we can't run the board on flexible size any more due to the new header design, we may be able to figure out something that could work... so give us a few days to see what we can come up with.
