As you may have noticed, I am quite enthusiastic about the poll feature on this board. *I know that we can email suggestions for polls to the moderator, and have taken advantage of this several times. *However, this makes it much less convenient, both for the creators of the polls and, I would guess, the moderator. *I would like it if you resumed allowing members to post their own polls.

I understand your concerns about people putting up poorly thought-out polls and scattering them all over the board. *For this reason, you might consider allowing anyone to create a poll in a few forums of the Polling Station, but leaving *the other forums restricted to moderators only. This way, people who only want to look at and participate in well-worded and organized polls can stick to the moderator only forums.

An excellent idea ...

I will set up one "Members Polls" forum to see how it goes. If it is a success and requires more forums that can be added later.

Members and guests may still suggest a poll to the moderator for inclusion in the "regular" Board polls.

We do reserve the right to amend or delete inappropriate and purely bad polls, or to move a particularly good poll into one of the main poll forums if that is appropriate.

Thanks girlygirl!

Wink

Just one problem--the board still won't let me create a poll, even in the new forum.

On investigation I discovered that the posting of polls cannot be set on a forum-by-forum basis. If a Member can post a poll in one forum, they are capable of posting in them all!

Therefore, I have set up a new Member group called "Senior Members". Senior Members are able to post polls; regular Members can not.

All Members who are designated Guru or above will automatically be switched to this new group upon their next post and will then be able to set up polls. I do ask however that Senior Members restrict the creation of polls to the new "Members Own" Polls forum.

Thank you,
the moderator

I think it may be a good idea to start a topic about starting a poll, to get some good answers... Then go ahead and create the poll... nothing worse then a poll that is missing stuff...
