Hi Stephanie,
A very good question! There is no minimum length for a post to be considered for the Golden Posts section. There are some shorter posts there, but they are admittedly in the minority.
Our original Golden Posts were selected because they met one or more of the following criteria:
- most important - the post had to make sense in isolation from any other post (that is, it did not rely on the reader having read other posts in a topic for it to make sense).
- it was well thought out, well presented, and understandable to the "average reader".
- it provided a solid generic answer to a FAQ.
- it provided an interesting and perhaps unusual perspective to a topic.
The posts that met these criteria have tended to be some of the longer ones. There are many other excellent posts that don't meet these criteria. Not being selected as a Golden Post is no reflection on them!
In any case, the list we put up was just a starting point. We do ask our Members to bring to our attention ANY post (long or short) they feel we may have overlooked (use the "Report this Post to a Moderator" link at the bottom of the post).
Hope this answered your question - thank you for feedback! *
