[QUOTE]WASHINGTON – Federal health officials on Friday approved a new type of morning-after contraceptive that works longer than the current leading drug on the market.
The pill ella from HRA Pharma reduces the chance of pregnancy up to five days after sex. Plan B, the most widely used emergency contraceptive pill, begins losing its ability to prevent pregnancy within three days of sex.

This is great news! Too bad it isn't available over the counter. It's supposed to more effective than Plan B and can be taken up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse.

Good news and bad news. Ella has been available in Europe for a bit over a year. It does seem to be more effective for a slightly longer time (each nation has its own guidelines for time after intercourse) but it also has stronger side effects. Yes, I suppoprt all the alternatives we can give to women but think we need to go slowly on OTC approval.

Yeah I suppose you are right, especially if the side effects are stronger. At least Plan B is available over the counter!
