So, recently, T had to have shock wave and a stent due to a rather large kidney stone. Stent stayed in a week and a half before he couldn't take it anymore, and we think most of the stone fragments have passed by now.
But the head of his penis is still experiencing intermittent discomfort. Stent was pulled a week and a half ago. I gave him his first BJ in three weeks, a few days ago. He wanted to play but start slowly because it was the first time since the shock wave/stent insertion procedure. I went very slow and got him plenty lubed before picking up any intensity at all, and it took nowhere near the action it normally takes to finish him. Which I had figured was because it had been a while. Then he had some discomfort during refractory time, which I didn't think much of because I can never touch it during refractory time anyway.
I'm tired of all this FOR him--first diagnosis was two months ago. I've had more than my share of surgeries and frustrating recovery times, so I'm great at being the patient, but I suck at being the loved one. I'm not wild about not being able to make it better. The penile head discomfort still hanging around has me concerned for him. He hasn't passed any fragments in almost a full week, and it doesn't seem to me the irritation from the stent removal should still be hanging around. It is worth noting that the urologist thought the penile head pain while the stent was in may have been referred to the penis by the bladder.
Any men had experience with this, or anyone with medical experience that can tell me whether this duration of discomfort is normal?

Sorry to hear about your man, lnt! I hope he'll be ok soon!
In my experience; usually you get patients-information on what "normal" after-effects may be, how long they may linger and in which cases to return to your doctor. Which usually ends with a phrase like: if you experience complaints that are not listed and do cause you worry, seek medical assistance. So I'd say: call the urologist.
Off course I can't say what your man could possibly have. But I know a guy on who they performed the URS, without leaving a stent in. He experienced a small infection afterwards, basically your typical UTI. Nothing a bit of antibiotics couldn't solve, but it did needed solving.
BTW: I doubt you "suck" at being the loved one; your patience and care is all he needs.
When I say I suck at being the loved one, what I mean is, I can't stand it that I can't fix it. Put me through anything you can come up with, just don't make him hurt and I can't do anything to make it better.
My dad get them. I have never seem someone in so much pain. Every once in awhile I get a pain near where my kidneys are and as soon as I feel anything around there I double up on Cranberry juice. I have read a lot that it helps with the kidney and bladder issues. It helps keep it clean. Not sure if it is urban legend, but I assume it does not hurt.
Does not sound unusual for a large stone. Both the fragments and the stent have been irritating his urethra for quite a while. Phone contact with the doctor would be a good idea and get that take on it. No one can really tell you much without knowing the case specifically. Feel empathy but do not feel guilty. Healing of our bodies is quite individual. I do sympathise with your feelings of helplessness.
greg,
Ignore those posts for which you cannot help. Your ideas would be fine pre-opertively but would not be indicated at this point. It would hurt. Like peeing fire.
