I was going on 4 years old when the 80's officially ended so I can't really reminisce with you. The closest thing I can remember was watching the kids shows of the early 90's (Ninja Turtles mostly) and the technicolor-on-acid commercials. Nothing classic like "Where's the beef" or "It's time to make the donuts" but memorable nonetheless. Hot pink, neon green and words like "radical" and "tubular". And the cool thing to do was to shave words on the back of your head, wear all your clothes backwards and argue about whether Pepsi was better than Coke. I take it that was pretty close to 80's culture... Good times.

You guys should rent The Wedding Singer sometime if you haven't seen it already. It's the best movie about the 80's that I've ever seen, and I have great taste in movies... I think you would especially get a kick out of it, sera.

Yep, that song is about me alright. I can see why it reminds you of me - sounds awfully similar to that situation I was posting about back in the day... And where I am now with "no place else to go".
I listen to the Gin Blossoms a lot. One night I was reading your thread, about when the pack & go--reminds me of you. Then the squabble w/the other guy at the her party--"if I had not blown the whole thing years ago...jealousy". "Drive around this town let the cops chase us around"...for some odd reason believe you do that for kicks..." and got not place to go; could I just crash here tonight"....You going across 200 miles to show up...

Honestly, there were parts of the 80's were if you knew it & were there parts were really wild...even if I am 42...it's still there...

Oedi, it is one of those deals where you HAD TO BE THERE (not
being rude at all so please don't take it in that vain). I will put
my thinking cap on before I leave and see if I can remember maybe
a movie that really depicts the 80s. You have good posts Oedi.

Vague---"there" being the 80s that is.....

Yea...had to be there! Liked the "rebel" in the "Breakfast Club". It was wild..the 80's [life] in part. "Wedding Singer" with A.S.? Watched that one too!!! Favorite is "Heartburn" & "Moonstruck"...

I don't know anything about the Gin Blossoms, but somehow I recognise that song... The lyrics have a lot of meaning for me apparently. And yeah, the cops knew me well... I'm a troublemaker.

Thanks, constantlylearning (No easy way to come up with a short nickname for that one...). I know I wasn't there, but I do remember the very early 90's when it seemed like a lot of the remnants of the 80's were still hanging around. I wasn't saying the 80's were lame - I find it all quite amusing and interesting, actually. Who shot J.R.? I don't remember...

There was a lot going on in the music world during the 80's - probably the most influential period ever. Punk, New Wave, and weird experimenal stuff. And all the major influential bands like The Misfits, Black Flag, The Cure. I'd have to go through all of my old records to remember all of them. And even a lot of the mainstream pop stuff was good.

I never actually saw any of the movies you mentioned. The 80's movies from my childhood that I have fond memories of were Better Off Dead, The Toxic Avenger, Ferris Bueler, Pee Wee, and Adventures in Babysitting... Then of course, there was BeetleJuice. And Die Hard! Lots of good stuff - I still watch many of them every so often. Apparently I had excellent taste when I was a kid...

Does A.S. stand for Adam Sandler? That's the Wedding Singer I was talking about - Figured you'd get a kick out of it for all the 80's music and references and Billy Idol showing up to save the day at the end... It was definitely the best thing Adam Sandler has done so far - I don't really care for most of his movies. Click was good too, though.

Yes, I knew what your intent was. Like I said before, you always
had good posts I enjoyed reading several of them. Ferris Bueller's
Day Off was a classic (dont ask me why but I really liked that
movie once upon a time). Funny side note, SouthFork J.R's house
outside of Dallas ---- isn't NEARLY as big as it looked on TV. When
I went to see it, I was shocked......Before I am gone for good, I will
try and remember a movie or two that captures (the 80s I remember).
I think you have the pulse of the music scene. It's funny as a person
reflects back to significant periods in their lives
they remember things that at the time seemed very insignificant.
I am a little too reflective I think........and not terribly appropriate
for this forum.....

You're doing fine con-learning (sorry I had to think of a witty nickname to tease oedi hehe)! There are no rules saying you cannot be reflective, and I have never read anything you wrote that was inappropriate. Just chill and go with the flow, don't be afraid to speak your mind. As I do recall, two threads you started became huge threads with lots of discussion...I don't think any of mine turned out like that lol.

Thanks curious. I think perhaps the views are "outdated" in general and
lack substance. It is cool though and I am very chill. Thank you anyway,
it was nice of you to respond just the same.

You are not outdated here...there are many people of various ages; mainly you tend to see younger posters but there are also many others which are your age & older! You have not wrote anything inappropriate; and apologize? No. I was taught in College never apologize for your opinion or thoughts. Apologies are only extended if what you wrote were misinterpreted by the reader, and then you apologize with lack of clarification. Or if you had a nasty day and wrote something not so nice.

Hang...you'll see.

CW: Your posts are interesting, I read them & recall we "locked horns" initially? The Internet is great for technology; however, the original intent can be lost through misinterpretation! We are missing the physical gestures which we see while speaking with someone face to face.

Oedi...
Yes, that song is you. Adam Sandler was funny in that! But love BeetleJuice & the music of The Cure! Same with Fergie..."Big Girls Don't Cry"...However, MB20 rules! Going to see the Gin Blossoms in 08!
