Funinthesun, even though it's been way to long since I skiied, try Utah, better snow than anywhere else in North America. Nothing like waking up to at least 6 inches of fresh powder every morning. I wasn't into moguls, rather speed. Downhill skiing, been clocked at 55, pretty fast for someone with no training. To win the gold at the Olympics in 2010 the speed will be above 80.
My dad was a tool and die maker I remember getting a 1/4 or 1/2 inch think piece of plexiglas and making a skateboard out of it. You could see, kinda, the road under you as you went along. I wasn't very good at skateboarding but my little brother was very good. He was one of them natural athletes. Good at everything he did. He made one too. I was always jealous of his athletic abilities. I remember just after high school, a friends brother had a parachute, we had a ski-boat, and well he rigged up a harness and para-sailing came to Oakland County. A few of his friends jumped me, when I showed up to watch, my brother thought it was funny to see his sis walk on water so I didn't get up as fast as he could of gotten me up. Dang I miss him. There was a pretty good hill in the neighborhood we grew up in, one day he and a couple of his friends were there skateboarding, hooting each other on and one of the "dad's" comes out blowing his lid, might of had to do more with the contents of that rocks glass he had in his hand. He was pretty drunk, and his daughter was totally embarrassed. When we were in college, a bunch of us went away skiing most weekends. You think skateboards duct taped to your feet is scary. Try 3 in a sled, midnight, down a ski hill. That was fun, and no no brakes, or edges. LOL To be a teenager or young adult again. |

Have you, or CL tried this sail boarding, that looks FUN. Also I saw some downhill skateboarding competition being shown today. I think it was called Mary Hill? It's the first paved road west of the Mississipi river, I think. The guy that won it, for the second year in a row, was Scott Smith, nickname Scoot. That was wild. Lots of turns, hay barrels down the sides, and the skateboards had their wheel out beyond the board itself. 6 going at a time, in heats, then a couple of semi's and then the finals. Wild stuff.

THanks Nutty pretty coollllllll.....those look extremely SURFABLE unlike the
Mavericks on the northern California Coast. Not sure, but the swales on the North Shore, the Mavericks and the coastal Australia (northern I think) are the wildest surf on the planet. FUN can you interject anything into it. You are more knowledgeable than I. I am an amateur at best. I do know my liimits. |

New Zealand is so beautiful. It's definitely one of the first places I'm going to visit when traveling. Surf, wine, and All Blacks! Those waves are awesome for ripping and tricks. Surfing Black's and Maverick's in those conditions can simply be described as "I'm going to die, I'm going to die, I'm going to die.......I'M ALLIIVVEEEE WOOHOOOOOOOOOO". There isn't really much time to think of the trick you're going to pull out of the turn out there. Those are the beach's for the speed demons and hell men.
Another great place to watch is Teahu'poo (also called "Chopes") That's in Tahiti and most of the fans paddle out to the edge of the break to watch. That wave is one of the thickest in the world with so much curl it looks like it's trying to swallow you. There's also a reef there so you really don't want to wipe out. I've never tried kite surfing but definitely will someday soon. The rigs are a couple thousand though. I'll probably try paddle boarding first.
