ED problem? or something else?

Okay, I'm just over 50...things for me have been pretty good sexually speaking. I've usually been giving out my two bits worth in this forum, but now for some reason I need to "ask". I've noticed things about me that raise concerns, because they "don't" raise a certain concern. This past year, I've noticed a definite drop with being able to get a decent erection. It doesn't matter if I have the hottest partner or looking at porn. Matter of fact, looking at porn doesn't do the slightest thing anymore! Weird!! I don't wake up with the morning wood I used to wake up to...more weird! I see a hot lady on the street and I just kinda say to myself..MEH...This is driving me koo-koo!! I'm going to make a doctors appointment in September to get all my vitals tested, with my own requistions, PSA and testerone levels checked. Hell I'd get hard just chatting to SERA..that was in here a long while ago!! LOL..I'm hydrated, I'm very very healthy, I'm very physically active,I sleep unbelievably well, yes I enjoy a cigar and Jack Daniels from time to time..I eat incredibly well, matter fact extremely well...no processed foods, all fresh and prepared daily. I own a business(for the past 30yrs) and the stress in these economic times don't seem to bother me anymore than any other year. I just can't understand why I can't seem to "get it up"?? really pisses me off! I guess I'm really looking for feedback...and the feedback I'm looking for is from Doc,Brandeye(sp) and good LORD..EEK!! yikes!!! :D I'm finding it very difficult to be "asking" instead of "dishing"...Peace Out..:p

Men with a high cholesterol level, high blood pressure, or, diabetes are at greater risk for ED than men who do not have these conditions. Being over weight can also contribute to the problem. You are also at that age when the natural affect of aging causes one to lose the ability to become erect. You will be wise to make that doctors appointment and get a physical and lab work done.

While in the office ask questions and be honest about what is happening (or not) and when. Ask about each of the three medicines: Viagra, Cialis, and, Levitra, and, how each differs, and which would be better for you and your life style. Remember, these pills were developed to help with a man's ability to perform. DO NOT purchase these medications over the internet. Here in the U.S. you must have a prescription. If you order over the net from some unknown source, you just never know what you might get in the plain brown wrapper. The meds are also manufactured overseas, so it is possible to stumble upon a legitimate source, although, you shouldn't chance it.

It is also important to know and understand that an erection is not a prerequisite for being able to ejaculate. As long as you are stimulating your penis properly, you can have a flaccid penis and still deliver the goods and enjoy the result.

I hope this is of help. Got questions?

Well, Hard, you seem to be doing all the proper things. Hate to tell you, but you are beginning to show your age! The next real step is what you are planning for September. I would urge you to consider a clinic with a complete medical workup if available to you. You are of an age where you might as well know what is coming and that is the best way to find some outlier that may be affecting your sexual response.

For what it is worth, I celebrated menopause with such a workup, a breast lift and hair tint.

Getting a physical might not be a bad idea. I turned 49 this year and, not to brag, one of my claims to fame over 3 decades was the frequency, rigidity and duration of my erections. Yet, in the past year I noticed that this had diminished. I was worried, certain that I was "showing my age" and on the verge of accepting that "I am no longer the man I was." It could have been stress, it could have been my general health (which took some hits in the past 12 months) or it could have been my age. Guess what? Whatever it was it went away. For the past few months even I have been surprised at my erectile prowess.
Perhaps you will also experience a recovery. If it goes on this way for another two months or if it continues to get worse you should definitely visit aphysician.

Thanks Dancingdoc2, as per usual good insight! Being overweight not an issue, blood pressure not an issue (I check myself frequently at the pharmacy) and diabetes will be a no-no due to my food style(to be read a diabetic diet, I find that type of diet quite healthy)...Yes I have planned to get a complete medical workup with a couple of added items I mentioned. I do realize you can ejaculate without being hard, but for some reason I just seem to feel that "why bother"..if you can't get hard, why bother trying to ejaculate...that is what I'm struggling with..the "MEH" factor...I'm thinking the aging thing has something to do with this..but I don't necessarily(sp) need release to enjoy sex, as long as I make my partner(s) fulfilled. Thanks again DancingDoc2:)

Brandye, thank you for your response. I will be getting a complete medical workup, it is available! I live in Canada, wink wink nudge nudge, health care is "free"...not really but they make us believe that! LOL..I respect your mention of "you are beginning to show your age"..My body might be just over 50 but it is just trapping the energy of a twenty something!! Now as for your treat to yourself to getting through menopause, that is awesome, but for me, getting a penile extension, would do nothing because what's the point of getting something larger up, if you can't get what you have up!! LOL..I'm sure another trip back to London and seeing the hot ladies there would definitely get my mojo going again!! Gawd I miss England:)

Thanks DLB, I've been noticing a slow diminishing of the libido...I would "hope" that it would magically reappear like it did for you, but since it seemed to slowly on-set, I'm thinking it is a natural occurence which I am not ready to accept! I hope your health remains on the good side DLB..Cheers mate!

Good to see you are positive and accessing the excellent advice on this site. We all hope you live up to your name for many years to come!!

So, Brandye, with the rather lovely picture attached to all your mails, your advice regarding the wisdom of not buying cheap bras and now the admission that you had a breast lift to celebrate your menopause, are we to assume that you regard female breasts as important mountains in the sexual armoury of you ladies?

Well this week I've gone in for "all" the tests, Tuesday I get to hear the results from the doctor. I plan on bringing in a note pad so that I can write down what he says. Men are notorious for not listening to what is exactly said to them by a physician!! LOL..Never had a prostate exam before(my bad) due to all the jokes and social naiveté. What an overrated exam that is! Men get prodded and poked WAY LESS than any woman does. If I ever hear a man complain about getting a prostate exam I'll ask him to turn in his man card! Blood tests check, urine sample check( never had to pee in a cup before), AM testesterone(sp) test check,PSA test check, blood occult test(that is just sick...I don't enjoy playing with poo!!), EKG check...Said to physician, uhhh I've been having some trouble lately with "the equipment" lately, he says well here is a prescription for "V" aka blue steel. I'm better than a porn star now...sorta..LOL ;). I'm really looking forward to hear about my LDL and HDL levels...I changed my lifestyle eating wise in early July and besides being quite athletic, I dropped 28lbs by increasing my excercise(sp) and going to 70% vegetarian diet(makes me a flex-a-tarian), dropping portion sizes. I play very intense tennis about 6 hours a week and hit the bike and elipitical machine 2 times a week, finished off with swimming. I told the physician that some of the tests I find goofy and if I was told I had some sort of cancer, I would decline any type of treatment, to which he just kinda of rose his eyebrows and asked why. I told him about family history and I have no desire to do the "great fight"..just give me pain killers...So I look forward to Tuesday...:)

So all tests in and gone through, the physcian said the numbers were ridicuously good. The testesterone was normal,PSA very low, I must reiterate that males over 50 get the prostate testing done! It is NOTHING of what you've heard or read about! Good GAWD!! I've had more probing done by a partner, than I ever had with "THE" test by a physcian..:D..I'm just going to keep on doing what I do and keep reading more from Peda Chodron...teaches you to chill;)
