Dreams

OK, so I often have dreams that come true. I often can't remember particular details but the physical sensation stays with me (whereas a normal dream has no physical effect on me). The other day I had a dream about having sex with someone other than my husband. When I explained that the orgasm I had from it was why I was in such a great mood, I lied and said he was the one in the dream. Should I be ashamed/worried about having such a dream? Or is it normal?

First of all: do not be ashamed of having such a dream, dear Savvy!

A little background in a nutshell:
Scientists believe that your brain at night 'copes' with everything you've experienced during the day. This explains why a good night sleep could enhance learning. Because you are not in an active thinking stage, some of this coping is fragmentarily displayed. This you remember as dreams. We all dream several times a night and yet some don't ever remember dreaming.

The idea of (sub)conscious comes from Freud. He devided the human psyche into layers: unconscious, subconscious and conscious. Unconscious layer can never be fully understood. But sometimes those deep rooted urges do come up like bubbles through the subconscious layer. This message becomes deformed in symbols, which appear in dreams and can only be read after carefull scrutinizing. In Freud's theory these were mainly the dark thoughts. His apprentice Jung gave a more positive swing on the theory, in which one could enlighten himself or could enhance selfdevelopment by reading these inner messages, that are not necessarily 'dark'.
So: dreams have the funny characteristic of composing all kinds of items gathered from our daily lives. In some cases; the people, things or surrounding represent themselves. In some cases they are "borrowed" from the daily life to either fill a blank or play a symbolic part in the dream.

Dreams about fantasy-sex are usually considered to be those "bubbles" coming up from beneath. You could say it is our primary urge surfacing. The person you had sex with is most probably unrelated. Your mind simply "borrowed" him to fill in a blank. Sex itself can become symbolic for another need: to be loved, cared for, longed for, dominated, etc...

Mind you: the exact meaning of dreams is highly personal! To create more insight, I suggest writing them down. A book with suggestions on how to unriddle them may help, as long as you view this as a guideline and not an answer. When you do this regularly, you can develop skills on how to "read" them.

I often write down my own dreams right after waking up. Especially those vivid with much detail. I strongly believe that personal development shows through your dreams. Examples; I have recently finished nightmares I had repeatedly since childhood; I gave them an ending and didn't awake screaming. I now more often am present in my dreams as an adult and view the world through my eyes, instead of being a child and seeing through shifting perspectives. I have even interfered once; adult-me came in the dream to comfort scared child-me. If that isn't symbolic for internal growth, I don't know what is! ;)

Why do we sometimes have "foreseeing" dreams? This is the most difficult kind. Most likely it's about intuition. We are far more intuitive than we think.

haha........

Yep, the 10% myth is a classic example of what you get when people only read the conclusion of research and put it in their books as if it is true. In this specific case it was probably due to journalist Lowell Thomas that misinterpreted a quote by a psychologist named William James that once mentioned that people probably use only 10% of their capacity, not brains

What seems true according to research is that about 10% of the brain is active simultaneously (Victor Lamme, neuropsychologist, and let's pray I'm not translating this wrong or I'll be the new Lowell Thomas ;):):D). Meaning you do use your entire brain over a day, just not every part of it at the same time. Every braincell has it's function. It is true that we do not understand the brain completely, however. It's an highly efficient beautiful thing, that's for sure! :)

EEK, that vid was cool! I wonder when such methods will be applied. I can imagine so many people who could benefit from this!

Women's erotic dreams often (usually?) involve others than regular partners. DO NOT TELL MEN THAT!!! Their fragile egos cannot handle it.

In my case though I lean more to female partners my fantasies and dreams ALWAYS involve men and almost always men with whom I came close but we never really had sex.

Well, the bad part about it was the man I dreamt about was sleeping in my living room with my sister... he's not even my type, really. It was just so realistic, I'm dying to go see what his bedroom looks like and see if my dream was accurate, lol.

dreams are your subcontioss minds way of having fun. You have no controll at all over what you dream dont worry about it just enjoy it. Some people do believe in prophetic dreams however. That is dreams that can tell the future and could come true. I dont personaly believe thats true but as dremas are windows to our fantasies its possible we try to live them out in reality.

yea some guys are jelouse some are not. I have dated alot of guys who would not care at all about this, any more then I care about there erotic dreams. People cant controll dreams so its silly to be jelouse.

Fragile egos huh...hmm well i hate to break it to ya but we do the same thing when we dream, and probably alot more than women do. And we're not as insecure about this as you claim we are. Some of us are actually turned on by shit like this. Considering she told us about the dream. But for the most part we really dont care as much as you think we do.

Well the reason why I worry is because I DO believe in prophetic dreams because I've had a couple actually save my life (and no I'm not exaggerating). I've been dreaming about my son since I was five and my husband since I was around 9. This guy my sis is dating, I've been dreaming of the tattoos on his chest the last few years, but I didn't meet him til recently. When I woke up, I could feel his hair in my hands for like an hour after.... but at least now I know its ok that i've had these dreams period, lol. I won't tell my hubby though. He's a little insecure in that department.

Wow, that's quite amazing and very interesting! :)

I've only had dreams in which I foresaw the exact environment and a few words; the context was missing (of what happened prior and after). I've really felt nailed to the ground quite a few times when someone would speak those exact words with the exact background as I had seen it (the dejavu-feeling). And I sometimes at night get a feeling something is wrong with someone I know and turns out (s)he is. I take it it is intuition. I also believe that people are in a way energetically connected to eachother (like you can "feel" someone is in the house), which makes these things possible.

Anyways, I now understand you posting this even more. Yet; I take it not all your dreams are prophetic? And you too "just" dream and fantasize like all of us? Also; you are in control of your own life. Dreams can't "make" you do anything! Take reassurance in that :)

Dreams are the brains way of sorting through information it has received. There's nothing "real" about it - as "this is true and will happen" - nope, doesn't work like that. A desire that it should is only a response protesting the apparent randomness of life.

No, this is nothing to worry about and you have nothing to tell anyone including your husband.

Prophetic dreams are an interesting concept. Considering how little of the brain is used by the average person and the possabilities for what the rest could do, i would not say its simply impossible. But I would say its not plausible. But if you can have prophetic dreams you would have an interesting ability. There is enuff claims based on reality of prophetic dreams that I have looked into it and I cant say its not atleast possible.

Actually the research has shown that "we only use 10% of our brains" is fiction, a myth, a lie. Here's some interesting info:

The brain is special enough without having to be prophetic as well.

No, not all my dreams are prophetic so I can take solace in that. I was just ashamed cause I couldn't get it out of my head for like 2 days (it was REALLY hot, the sex not the guy). But I've heard that fantasizing is ok, its just hard to believe.
